I was looking over the leaked Gladiator photos and noticed this strange mound on the passenger side of the rear bumper. I was wondering if this could be a place to mount a spare tire carrier. The aftermarket Wrangler bumpers with a spare carrier have a hinge that comes out of that same area. This would be a good opportunity for Mopar to make some money because I can see a spare tire carrier being a popular Gladiator mod.

If this is not for a spare tire carrier what else could it be?

I would guess it's an artifact of the render. All the mules have shown the spare being carried underneath.

You might be right, but I think that it is something intentional. Yes, I saw the mules but Mopar could still make a spare tire carrier that fits onto “spare tire carrier ready” bumper just like the JL steel bumpers are “winch ready.”

this would make sense if they intend for people to put bigger tires on these things. I doubt the stock tire location will accommodate a 37" tire, right?

I would guess they would make the stock tire location hold 35s but a spare tire carrier could hold a bigger tire.

Good Catch. That totally looks like how most JK & JL bumpers look when they spare carrier is not installed. I bet your right and you will see an offering from MOPAR as an accessory.

Only works for a stepside bed, or one with a built in notch. They stick out waaaaaay too far otherwise. I'm trying to figure out how to mount a side mounted 37x12.50 on my Thriftside J2000, and it ain't easy.

I still think those images are very well done mocks or renders. I am still not 100% they're real. Someone creating a render would likey grab JL parts to put onto this render for authenticity.

Tomorrow we'll know what it really looks like, some of the broad (marketable) features and maybe some ballpark MSRP. I'm not expecting to get to make many decisions about my future purchase yet. I already know I want it, I don't think they'll be able to fuck it up enough to change that. But I won't know my exact needed budget until I see an order form with options. I am so excited to at least be able to put the picture up somewhere to use as a goal.
