I had a spare tire carrier on my F150 and really liked having it. I plan on going that route again as well but probably with the Expedition One double swing out. I like the ease of spare access as well as mounting my Trasharoo when out camping. I am building my JT as an overlanding rig as well as DD and not as much as a Home Depot runner so getting into the bed is not a daily thing.

Looks great. How are you able to have a trailer hitch at the same time? That tire mount is a trailer mount right? My plan was to only put it on there when I was overloading. Because the rest of the time I am hauling a boat.

Thank you!

Pretty much, their systems plug into the hitch, then with a torque wrench, you have to torque the bolt that locks the wedge in place. However, on the Rig'd ultra carriers, they come with an offset trailer hitch (this is normally used for the bike attachment), and then you also have the hitch opening (still opened), where you can hook up the trailer. (It doesn't block the hitch, you will need a 18inch extension for the torque wrench to torque that bolt/wedge block).

I don't plan on towing very often, maybe just once to twice a year, so I have the hitch in place for those that like to tailgate a little to close, and then I placed my 4th brake light (diode dynamics hitch light) to the offset hitch opening on the Rig'd.

I hope this helps.

As for the bent frame threads, I will have to do a little bit of research on this as I am not quite too familiar about it. Thanks for posting those links!

I forgot to mention, one of the issues I have right now is seeing out of the rear view camera. Therefore, I purchased this last week and currently waiting for it to arrive.

In addition, as rough as this seems, I may mount this on my SmartCap, lined up centered, facing down with the wires running through the inside of the SmartCap. Also, bought the extension cable wiring for it.

Will update after.

I'm looking at the RIGD one too. The link for the backup camera is appreciated...looking forward to how you install it. I don't have a bed topper so I'm not sure where I'd put it...maybe on the spare mount? The other concern is getting a ticket for not being able to see the third brake light.

This looks great- but having seen at least 3 gladiators with bent frames @/just behind the shock mounts, and 1 unexplainable…. But bent at the rear track bar…. Would try to off road with as little weight that far back as possible.
Or like the YouTube channel “down to mob” look at pulling the bed and adding some reasonable reinforcement to the frame.

anyone with a hitch- have someone bounce up and down a bit on the tongue of the trailer….. look at that flex ??

Don’t take this as trash talk- but more of something to look into further and beef things up ???

I'll definitely give an update once I figure out where to mount it. Was thinking about that same idea too, I may even mount it with some tap-in screws to that SideHack thingy I bought for the ultraswing. For the third brake light, I ended up purchasing the DD hitch mount light, I prefer this over the stock Jeep one, and ended up plugging it into that offset hitch opening.

I definitely appreciate the insight and experience shared, especially as I would have not known about those bent frames or anything about that, so thank you, Rich!

I ended up taking out my neighbors to go quail hunting this past weekend, and you were spot about off-roading with little weight in the back. My damn hitch kept dragging booty cheeks, so I think I may just start throwing that spare in the bed for that.

Cheers to beefing things up ?
