If you are going to ford, maintain momentum and keep the bow wake moving. That 30" is if you were not pushing a wake. This mud wallow came up to the base of my windshield by the measuring stick.

Most snorkels are designed to provide relatively clean and dust free air, how cool it is is up for debate. For water unless you are willing to run a stack for intake and exhaust, its not going to get you that much more depth. The factory air box also typically has a rain flap setup where a reasonable amount of water will by bypassed should it get in before it sucks water. Again, keeping moving is key.

How much water did you get in the cab doing that? Was it a flooded ditch or a creek?

None! God bless silicone greased door seals.

It's a rock cut on top of a mountain, power company cut it years ago to avoid scrabbling over the ledges and steps. It can be dry as a bone in that area and the wallow is wet. This year was the wettest in 28 years and we thought there would be more depth, the lack of depth is fine by me.

Nice. Wish I could do that with my Ridgeline. A snorkel wouldn't do me much good :CWL:.

I want to revive this. I was hoping to find something lower profile in the snorkel arena.
I do not like the mopar one. The Hauk Offroad Snorkel would be cool. But I think it won't fit with the Genesis Dual Battery kit, or it will be a tight fit.

The Rugged Ridge XHD seems interesting - but they don't even have one for the JL, is that right? I thought I saw some show cars with it in videos from SEMA. Does anyone know? Rugged Ridge doesn't seem to have like a general info mailbox, you have to create a ticket... and for some reason that's not quite working for me.

This is a common question. Lots of videos, explanations, and posts on other forums. Generally, it's not an issue. But, you'd have to make the decision for yourself.

I'm not interested in a high snorkel. I want something low, like the Rugged Ridge XHD low, or like the Hauk Offroad. Mostly I also want something I can add a pre-filter to.

Then don't do it that way. There are other options (which are better as they also remove particulate matter and discard it before it hits the air filter)

If the system is built correctly the injested water is kept to a minimum, your factory filter box demonstrates this with the air having to make a 90* vertical turn which will cause the droplets to rain out and there is a drain to allow the accumulated droplets to leave the box.

These systems aren’t designed to allow you to submerge and the like, more like a clean air intake where dust and particulate are purged.

Some systems use a forward facing ram scoop, some use a rearward but I think at the end of the day the ram effect is very minimal. More advanced use either a passive or active cyclonic prefilter, the active is driven by the air flow and is just a squirrel cage spun by the intake flow. At the far end is the oil bath type which are very effective in addition to being a chore to maintain.

I hafta admit I am interested in a snorkel just for the looks - I know I know this is the only option accessory that I am going to put for the looks (poser-ish) and I am prolly never going to drive it into a river but maybe a small puddle on a trail LOL. Hey - but you never know cuz I do plan to drive my truck cross country and onto the Dalton Highway within the next 1.5 years when I have all my mods in. I am waiting for Safari Snorkels to release one for JT. The Aussies seem to love the Safari Snorkels...

I have to say that the retro-industrial appearance of the Hauk unit has me thinking seriously about piling that money up and burning it on one.

I don't like gaudy accessories, but I do like clean functional accessories. If the Hauk box used an oem filter and not an oily cheese cloth filter I'd already be dusting off the charge card, but as a function uber alles kind of guy I'm struggling with it.
