Glad I didn't buy mine there. A couple spark plugs would be found inside one night. They have no cameras. :bandit:

I'm curious as to what solution OP went with here. Things don't just "rectify" themselves...
Hopefully it is being rectified. Salesman and GSM talked and apparently there was a lot of miscommunication. They said I would be getting my deposit back. No apology from the GSM or anything, but salesman was apologetic. My bad for posting salesman's name. He didn't deserve the publicity.

I’m glad this is on the way to being resolved and you’ll get your deposit back. Nothing that’s happened subsequent to the order changes that this was a dealer error and you didn’t get the truck you wanted. And I’m glad you’re going to have a path forward to get what you want and at potentially a better price.

It is frustrating though trying to offer advice from the perspective of making sure there was no misunderstanding and that things were clearly understood on the dealer side, being told here that things were clear, and now hearing they in fact were not :(

There’s nothing wrong with naming a bad salesman, but one should never have to retract that since all of one’s ducks should be in a row before the name gets posted.

I sold cars. I worked in a dealership for 6 years over the younger years of my life. I know how things work. They were trying to eff you. Who knows, maybe they saw this thread and figured that nobody on this site within 100 mies would ever give them a shot on a sale.

They ALL NEEDED to be outed. It doesn't matter if it is resolved in the end.

The tortuous path you had to go down is what people need to know about.

It will never be rectified because you had to push and push and push.

Please realize this or people will walk all over you. Nothing they do from this point on can change what has happened in the past.

Never forget. ;-)

p.s. And I'd still suggest buying berteracars.com and filling it up with your story of woe.

p.p.s. It is kind of funny that berterasucks.com is already taken.

what he said

Thats why I tell people who are buying from Gupton to get a front plate mount. A couple of people got screwed and I read about it and it was "too late" for me and now I have to buy the stupid thing that should have came standard. So now Im trying to help others after me. This is why I also think you should keep the title of this post. Yea they can rectify it, but people still need to know what they did. Keeps them honest, and more importantly us informed!

Front plate mounts have been optional on many vehicles for decades. Many states don't supply and some don't require front plates. No one wants a front plate mount if their state doesn't furnish or doesn't require a mount.
Dealers in Iowa automatically check that box when ordering (it should be based on destination state, IMO. I mean really - destination is part of the process, put an if/then statement in the bloody order process.)

Nevada dealers even make you sign a form starting that you received a front plate mount. I take it depends on state and Tennessee does not require the front plate.

Re this being resolved now, nope. They messed up, were petty and now want to “make it right” now that it’s on the inter webs, but guess what buddy?

FWIW, consensus is that you are on the right side!

Yes, but I live in Ca and its mandatory. There isnt a box to check online... And Gupton is saying since I didnt check the box then its my fault. Well how can I check a box that isnt given to me to check, and I wouldnt know it existed unless I could see it/worked. Thats the pain about ordering online. Dont get me wrong if this is the biggest thing to go wrong then I am gonna buy my next jeep/possibly cummins from them. But at the same time Im buying a pretty much fully loaded JTRD. Why wouldnt you just order a few more on the next jeeps whether the owner wanted it or not, and keep a cache for when somebody else from CA or other state needs it and doesnt know to ask for one. This way they still look like a good guy instead of souring an otherwise good experience? Ive walked away from truck purchases from lesser things. I was picking up my X5 and they were going to only give me a 1/4 tank. I told them straight up fill this bitch up or Im walking out this door and I will post it to every single place possible. The owner squawked and gawked and when he saw me getting on my Ducati he changed his story real quick.

On front plates: Where did you order one from? I suspect if you didn't get one I won't either so I would like yo buy one. Though I may just do what I did with my old XJ for years. 4 Neodymium magnets and a steel front bumper works wonders.

Fun fact about Massachusetts: If you have the old style green lettered license plates, you pass safety inspection with no front plate as they weren't issued. If you have the new style plates, you fail the safety inspection and your car is legally "unsafe to drive" until the "problem" is fixed.

Was that petit larceny or Tom Petty? One means small, the other does not.

I sat and watched as the salesman filled out our order (and that's why I blame me for not catching that he didn't actually get the passive entry box checked - he messed up, but I was watching!)
The front plate bracket he actually said out loud as he checked it, it was one of the first things - I remember his words "front plate bracket, this is Iowa, we always check that".

They have a form for YOU to fill out????
OR - they let YOU complete the order form that only they are supposed to even have access to? I recall our sales guy saying that for a certain spot on that form, the sales manager had to enter some code or something to keep them from getting something for themselves when ordering - can't re call what it was, but parts of the dealer order form are apparently locked down (or their management doesn't trust sales staff LOL)
