I ordered 5.13’s for my Gladiator 6 weeks ago from 4WP and they still show backorder. Is this normal? I am not a patient person and I really hate backordering anything. After a call to the store asking if I could cancel they miraculously found the parts and they will be here next week ??‍♂

I believe Dana builds in batches, so it is somewhat normal for them to be OOS for a LONG time. I didn't backorder my dana 5.13s last year from NR4x4 when they were OOS, but I did use the, "Email me when available" feature. It was months before they restocked and I was even checking frequently to make sure I didn't miss them.

I am having my gears done next week. I originally called to schedule and was told May 2024 was the ETA for 5.13's.

Amazingly, a local distributor had a set from a customer that backed out, so their loss was my gain.

yea its normal, Spicer does orders in batches, so they set all their tooling up and do one axle/gear, and then they reset their tooling up and do another axle/gear.

I did mine over the summer, I think it was a 2-3 month wait for everything. From what I remember the front 5.13's were almost overnight, but the rears were the wait.

Check 5.38's too. When I did mine noone told me the 5.38s were sitting on a shelf and could have had them all overnight. I'm running 37's but would have installed the 5.38s had I known.

Manual or Auto? Currently debating between 13's or 38s. Running 37s as well. Judging by most of the charts they say either or is fine just don't wan't to be at like 3k RPMs in 6th at 70mph

I've got an auto. The difference in 5.13's and 5.38's is like 4.5%, probably too small to really notice, about 100 rpm at highway speeds

I'd always recommend overgearing a Jeep, you're already driving a box on wheels, nothing you can do to get better highway MPG. Might as well gear deep and enjoy the around town power and MPG....

I'll have to run some math to see where RPM's sit. MPG is always out the window. I'm more concerned with sitting too high while cruising. I hate letting these engine cruise much above 2k

Yup, I did 5:13s with 37s and I feel it was a mistake. If I did it again I would go 4:88. With the 8 speed it is too much and I fly tough the gears and hit 8 quick. I do plan on 40s down the road so I guess i'm ready for them.

I am doing 5.13's with the 6 speed and 37's... here's where my gears are at 80 MPH:

Gear15.1319927
22.6310216
31.535944
413885
50.813147
60.722797

Here is the factory 4.10 with the original Falken 33's

Gear15.1317290
22.638864
31.535157
413371
50.812730
60.722427

I had a 2018 JLU that was completely stock and I often had to downshift from 6th on hills (basically the 2nd chart). I think 5.13's will give it just a little more power there and still be under 3k RPM.

I guess it depends on what you are going to be using it for and where you live. My jeep isn't an interstate machine, but I do 15 miles of interstate 3x a week. the rest of the time I'm driving around town, up in the GA Mountains, or pulling my boat. Even when I'm on the interstate I'm rarely above 70. With the 3.6 you really don't get close to the most efficient torque curve until about 2200-ish RPMs.

Figure out what you are doing and what fits best. if you do plan on towing a trailer, or if you spend most of your time off the interstate, a deeper gear is better. just from being around, I'd say the % of people that wish they would have geared deeper vs the % of people who feel they went too deep is 10:1, not saying it doesn't happen, I just don't hear about it as much.
