Now that invoice prices are available I added up my Sport S vs Rubicon builds again (both with AT, 7" radio, hard top, max tow, aux switch, tonneau, slush mats). The price difference at invoice pricing is smaller than for MSRP:

Rubicon build MSRP + dest: $49,425
Sport S build MSRP + dest: $44,960
difference: $4,465

Rubicon build invoice + dest: $46,901
Sport S build invoice + dest: $43,299
difference: $3,602

I'm not planning to modify it much at least at first, so the Rubicon is looking better and better.

Can we get leather on the Sport S model?
Also, does the 4.10 rear decrease gas mileage at all?
On the JL you can order Mopar leather on the Sport and Sport S . I am not sure yet on the Gladiator.

How much more would your monthly payment be? That may be your decision point.

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. Is this the Overland thread?

Basically, all the zoot suits who said max tow sport S would approach low end Rubi in price were right.

So whatcha gonna do? Get you some fancy stitching and a blingy neon dash panel? Or try to act tough when a Rubi rolls up on your sport S at a stoplight? Lol.

For me, only choice is LE 4190. but used and beat to hell for OTD under 40K in a few years.

Was thistpost helpful? Sorry, not sorry, love reese's. Lol. #plywoodbrotherhood

To the guys talking about residual. Lower trim levels according to value guides hold their value better percentage wise typically. The killer with the Sport v.s. Rubi value debate is the amount of them available used on the market..... There will be ALOT more used sports on the market, more inventory means more options for buyers, and more haggling. A Rubi will sell easier because of supply and demand.
I work at a Subaru dealership and I see this everyday. NADA, KBB, Galves and such are guides.... they don't write checks.... typically they are in the ball park, but looking at trends at auctions really unveil residual value. I have found with Subaru leases that their residual values are not generally realistic. And banks do mess up.... back in the mid 2000's Jp Morgan Chase lost their shirt on Subaru Legacy leases. on top of that, residual values on leases are not always truly indicative of the real value of the vehicle because the manufacturer will pay the financial institution to raise residuals and lower interest rates to be more competitive. An example of this would be an observation of Honda over the past 5 years... go back 5 years and Honda had lease rates that were OUT OF THIS WORLD, a short 5 years later the leases are quite a bit more expensive. Honda paid down those rates to be that inexpensive.
In reality none of us have a crystal ball, nobody knows how the Gladiator will fair on the market. We are throwing a paper plane and assuming we will know where it lands. The market is a fickle thing, and this is a new model without heritage or a legacy behind it like the wrangler. It's like betting on a new IPO lmao. this could be a giant flop and not sell well at all, or be plagued with issues driving the value down. Another thing to consider is incentives.... If they drop incentives on it like the Ram 1500 then forget resale value because there won't be any..... Incentives hurt resale quite a bit. I hope this is insightful and helpful! :)

Before you look at features, price, residuals, etc. you need to look at the use case for your Jeep. You need to determine things like, whether or not you're going off road. Will your off roading be occasional or often. Will your offroading be dirt roads or will you be crawling over some rocks. I could go on and on but you get the point.

I'm doing A LOT of off roading. Mostly on weekends with the family. This will be an overlanding vehicle but it's going to ford small rivers, crawl 1' or bigger rocks. It's going to get used as a Jeep, just like my JL is now. This is why I'm going with a Rubicon. Beyond that the discussion just becomes what I need or want in my Gladiator.

Does the base Sport model not have F&R Dana 44s?

Jeeps website mentions that the Gladiator has F&R 44s, it doesnt mention that its trim specific. I've seen it stated here a few times that the max tow package has 44s, makes it seem like the base doesnt.

All have dana 44s. The Rubicon has a wide track, beefed up dana 44. If you get the "max tow package" sport, it comes with those wide track, heavy duty axles. If you go sport, i HIGHLY recommend the max tow package.

If I go AT I will. Currently in a MT, so not sure I want to go auto yet. Max tow unfortunately only available on autos.
