New Jeep owner with a used 2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave 34K miles on it, and OEM batteries most likely.

I have the Start/Stop error message (see attachment) and from online search, thought I had two batteries. Called the local Jeep dealer and the parts guy tells me, based on my VIN, the vehicle has only *one* battery. That surprised me.

Is there a way to find out, based on the VIN alone, how many batteries are there in my car?

2021 Jeep Gladiator Mojave. 3.6L V5 24V VVT Engine w/ESS. Automatic.

TIA.

Also, if you have the auxiliary battery, you should see two ground wires on your main battery's ground connection.

Two more things...

1. If you bought the truck used it's possible that someone already removed or bypassed to aux battery, but that would not be reflected in your build sheet.

2. You can easily bypass the aux battery, as shown here. (This WILL NOT disable ESS - you still have to do that either manually or by another method. There are hacks and there are devices that do it for you if you can't remember to press a button after you start up)

If you have the Start/Stop system (all US model Gladiators do), then you have two batteries. The message you are seeing indicates that one or both of the batteries are failing. Since you are within the 3/36 warranty, you can do the dealer dance and try to get them replaced under warranty.

The other option is just to replace both batteries. My preference is the ACDELCO 94R and Aux14 from Amazon. If you choose to replace the batteries, be careful that the battery cables are isolated and do not touch against anything metal in the engine bay. The Aux battery is accessible by turning the wheels all the way to the left and peeling back the rear inner section of the fender liner (the warmer it is, the easier it is).
