Sure, there's plenty of defunct companies in the Automaker Boot Hill that either fizzled out with a decent product but couldn't get the sales to keep it moving... or worse, merged with someone else.

If anything the forebears of AMC were all pretty well mismanaged (am I right, @ShadowsPapa ?), which is how Chrysler wound up snagging AMC to get Jeep. But then again, Chrysler has almost always been plagued by poor management.

Maybe it's a genetic flaw in their C-suite that has been passed down to DaimlerChrysler, FCA and now Stellantis?



TBF, I see Broncos everywhere. Not that Wranglers aren't ubiquitous as is but clearly the Ford is taking a chunk out of Jeep sales.

Really? don't see many Broncos on the road here at all.

OTOH, my wife is waiting for the 25 Bronco sports to hit the ground. Apparently it's the right combo of features she's looking for. Not really my cup of tea but as long as she likes it I don't care. I just hope it turns out somewhat reliable. Her Highlander has been pretty good in that regards sans one leaky water pump.

All of that being said, I realized only a few months ago that the real problem is Subaru ownership makes you way too practical in your future car buying decisions. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

Out of curiosity, why didn't she go back with a new Subaru?

I live in the mountain west where AWD and 4WD are very common. We see a lot of Jeeps and Subarus. We live in town during the work week, then go to our mountain property on the weekends. We bought the Gladiator to handle those times of inclement weather when traveling to and from the property.

In addition to what has been said, I think there is another potential reason for the slow-down in JT sales. Namely, there are a finite number of people who want a Wrangler with a truck bed stuck on the back. I'm one of them, as are most of you if you're on this forum. We had to wait a LONG time for Jeep to make a truck post Comanche (1992). And the last truck like a Wrangler finished in 1985 (Scrambler CJ8). So there was pent up demand for a Jeep truck, but it has been filled. 2024 sales tanking aligns with this.

Speaking of, if anyone can find me a good deal on a 1957-1966 FC, let me know

They're everywhere here in Suburbia. Sports, too.

Our 23 Bronco Sport has been plagued by electrical gremlins caused by various modules not cooperating with each other. We also have transmission problems that are in process of being resolved- very rough shifting at lower speeds, low pedal input. Fortunately these are all covered under warranty and the gremlins have been recalls. It's annoying but being sorted, theoretically.

The 2025 looks interesting and even though we've had a decent number of issues, it's a very capable, that is fun to drive (even if it is a 4-banger EcoTurd) and extremely safe. I'm curious if they restore all the missing trim bits from the 2022-2023 years in the 2025. Last count its about $5-600 to buy everything Ford otherwise included on every model in 2020-2021 the bean counters deleted.

An Outback Wilderness was #2 on the list. It lost out on the "fun" factor. Subies are practical, sensible, and... kinda boring. They're like a good pair of tennis shoes.

Nothing against Subaru, she was more inclined to something different and "fun" and the BS fit the bill. She also has a 50 mile DC Beltway commute daily. Being bright yellow and sitting up higher is a plus over the Outback.

Our 2013 Crosstrek has been a great vehicle and now is relegated to beater status- dump/Home Depot runs, Costco, or when my BMW is in the shop the temporary vehicle. 211K miles and burning oil like it owes it money but still running.



To take this BTT:

Jeep really is missing out in this category. A Cherokee that is actually a RAV4/CRV/BS/Tuscon competitor would give them the working capital to keep the halo vehicles like the JLU/JT and Wagoneer viable in the consumer market while providing a great option in the rental fleet world. As enthusiasts we forget that fleet sales are a massive portion of sales for these companies.

To put things into perspective, my 2015 JKUR was sticker $40K and I paid $34.8K plus tax and my 2023 JTR was sticker $61K and I paid $40K plus tax which I think is a hell of deal considering the upgrades between both vehicles.
granted I had 1.8% for 60 months on the JKUR and now have 5.5% for the JTR with same term

Here goes the value of gladiator s once more. My dealer is selling gladiators $ 500.00 plus recovery. I guess that’s their cost plus $ 500.00 ? That’s pretty bad when we are in Jeep country here !!

I wouldn't own a Subaru, but they are indeed practical. I live at high elevation in northern New Mexico where 4WD and AWD vehicles are coveted. It's amazing how versatile Subarus are in bad weather conditions.

I agree. Although, I think having the Cherokee, Renegade, and Compass was too much to begin with.
