Stop/Start Battery Issue

That message means the charge level in the batteries is low. There are no codes stored to go with it. When the batteries are charged enough to satisfy the monitoring system, the message goes away.
To rsan09, ignoring this could lead to the Avengers light, no start or other random faults. At this point you have a battery issue. It may not even be a bad battery at this point. You could have been set up to fail when you purchased your JT. Those batteries could have been depleted several times just sitting in the dealers lot.

Yes, that's the annoying part not knowing what they actually did at the dealer but still charging me for it each time!

I don't mind using tools, I do have a battery charger the battery tender plus, i can use that. Thank you for your advice. Also, any good battery brands to get if replacement is needed for both main battery and aux battery?

I have the charger and 120vac adapter on several vehicles. No issues at all.

I use Interstate batteries when I need a replacement. I will probably go with Interstate for the JT when that time comes.

So, do you have the charger attached to the main battery? And if so, it doesn't cause any issues with the battery mounted underneath? I have the NOCO installed next to the main. It plugs into the adapter making it easy to plug in, like an EV. I plug it in every few weeks or when I leave it parked for more than a week.

Hey all,
Coming on here because I have been having an issue with the stop/start battery. I own a 2020 Jeep gladiator and in FEB 2023, I took my jeep to the dealer to have it looked at. I was told calibration was needed and a week later then same issue reappeared, and battery had to get replaced (warranty for 3 years). Now, DEC 2024, I am having the same issue. Let me give you guys a timeline:

Nov.7th - Stop/Start not ready Battery Charging Message appeared on the screen when the stop/start system stopped working
Nov. 11th - Service was done at the dealer to restart the stop/start battery - I was sent home with a "working" stop/start system
Nov. 21st - Stop/Start not ready Battery Charging message reappeared
Nov. 27th - IBS Sensor was replaced at Dealer
Nov. 28th- Stop/Start not ready battery charging message reappeared (the next day)
Till now - the message is still there and the voltage on the battery seems to be at the 14V range but seems to be struggling at every start. Voltage is constantly changing (dropping to high 12 V range) when I am at a stop but while moving its consistent (14V range).

As you can imagine I am really frustrated and annoyed. I contacted the dealer and was told to book another appointment to get it looked at and they can determine if it's a battery issue. I know dealers have protocols and steps they have to do and check other components before the battery gets replace, since for me the battery is still under warranty because it was bought at the dealer. BUT it's breaking my bank with the constant fees back and forth.

My questions now are:
Is it a battery replacement issue?
Is it an alternator issue whether its not charging the battery well or too much?
faulty stop/start system? wiring issue?

Anyone suggestions to resolve this issue or what can be causing it? or answers to why this might happen in an almost 2-year span?

I live in California - weather is not too hot or too cold where I live (San Francisco Bay Area). So, it shouldn't be an issue that the weather is damaging the battery.
I started getting this message about 3 months into owning my Jeep in 21’. On longer trips ESS would still work after a while. I personally had no issue with ESS doing it’s thing other than the tendency to activate whenever I pulled into my driveway. This was particularly annoying when it wouldn’t work at all during the preceding drive. Beyond the system being dumb about when it works, I think their implementation is less annoying than other makes. I noticed that the availability of ESS decreased fairly linearly from April 21 to this spring when it was basically never available.

When I started getting the “Aux Switches Temporarily Unavailable” message earlier this year my starting battery was dead within a week. Both batteries tested bad. They warrantied both. For about a month after ESS worked flawlessly and was available all the time. No error messages. Within a month I was back to have the ESS unavailable message again on short drives. There are multiple failure modes for either battery but in any parallel or series battery bank even if there’s a state-based disconnect, a bad cell in one battery can lead to an eventual failure of the other batteries. Note that two batteries connected via DC-to-DC charger isn’t a battery bank. The Aux and Starting batteries are connected in parallel.

My dealership’s (Jeep only dealership) service director told me ESS, Aux and starting battery failures are the number 1 warranty issue they deal with. They recommend I disable ESS and disconnect/remove the Aux battery. They don’t care if I use a Tazer to do so. I’m not sure I’d go that far for an exclusively street driven truck. When my battery failed, the CAN bus system went nuts. The truck shredded my wiper blades. The lights went crazy and I could no longer lock or unlock the truck. It failed to an unlocked state. I had to disconnect my battery to get the wipers and lights to stop but there wasn’t enough juice for the fob to work, interior light to work, transmission selection to work or to start. It left my truck stranded in a really bad place on the side of my house and the tow truck driver and I had to push it to the tow truck. I’m not willing to have this happen when off road so I got rid of the warranty Aux battery.

One thing to note is that I don’t drive my truck everyday. This is going to exacerbate any of these battery issues, so consider getting a tender if you don’t commute with your truck and decide to keep the Aux.

Hi Guys I got my Mojave 2023 and I got the same issues related to the batteries, the dealer already changed both batteries the auxiliary first and a couple of weeks the main but still the problem remains, anyone for here know what the root cause really is?

Can''t say without some true troubleshooting. Just because someone replaces batteries doesn't mean they know what they are doing, or do it right.
Any dealership that says what that one said - well, maybe the same tech that told me my winch was the problem (sitting with the disconnect switch off and CORRECTLY installed)

When replacing batteries, always fully charge a battery BEFORE installing.
Also - disconnect the IBS network connector and let it reset.
There could be ground issues, loose connections (likely the number 1 issue with Jeeps - loose stuff), blow fuse because someone messed up while messing with batteries, or - ESS messages can also mean you have OTHER issues not even related to batteries.

The problem with Jeep is their batteries (and too often, lack of driving far and long enough)
Their batteries suck. And in my wife's case, not driving her 2023 led to error messages about aux switches not available and so on.
Yeah, not an aux/ESS problem because a 4xe doesn't even have those things!
Many people with the 4xe griped about the single 12volt battery lasting from a few weeks to only a year or so. So it's a Jeep battery issue, not to mention I think in the older models of the Gladiator - their charging system logic was off. Our new Jeeps (25 and 26) never drop voltage as low as our prior ones did. The voltages run much different than in years past.......... did Jeep learn something?
