I’ve seriously considered adding forced induction to my ‘21 JTR, especially since we live at 6,500’ elevation, and naturally aspirated engines lose power that high, but I just can’t quite commit. Does the Magnuson setup require premium fuel? Are there any issues with engine coolant or oil temps? Any information you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Yes premium. Every turbo/charger I know of for our rig requires premium. Now certainly if you end up someplace with only regular your not going to instantly blow up if you use one tank of regular.

Under normal driving I've never had an oil or tranz temp issue. Towing up a 6 deg grade in 100+ deg day that's 6 miles long. Yes she got hot and de-rated. Same issue the diesels have. There is just not enough space in the grill for enough cooling. The solution is stupid simple. Go slower up hill. Again only ever had this issue when towing.

Oh the fuel milage sucks whenever I am towing … it went from about 15 highway to around 10-12 while towing on the flats! To be honest neither of my jeeps have ever done really well on fuel mileage with the stock gearing (like so many others I have spoken to) highway anyway! The wife has a 2017 wrangler rubicon and the best we’ve ever done mileage wise is 17 mpg highway!
And now you have to use premium fuel, right?

The SC is a no go on a '22 so I live with gears. The SC on a 3.6 is a short lived mod IMO. Besides, towing is more than just getting it jp the hill. It's stopping and controling it going down a grade.

No warranty that I am aware of … I guess I could have changed the gearing but to be honest I was just digging on having the extra horsepower! I have been told that there is a chance that the internals could be at risk but I added the supercharger at 27000 miles and I am rolling up on 41000 now with not a hint of trouble!
it's 3 year/36k miles

I'm looking at this one, 2020 1230 miles, it has the Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger

magnuson actually includes a little decal that is placed inside the fueling compartment (see picture) that says to use premium fuel only! And just Pryor to the install they asked that I either siphon the old fuel out or burn it down sufficiently enough and add a tank of premium so that it is prominently what is in the tank.
i have had no issues with engine overheating or coolant leaks. Driving in the sweltering Nevada heat of over 115 degrees all my temps were very close to normal. I have towed my trailer up a few choice grades of 6 and 7% in California during the summer months ( temps of 95-100)and while the temps (all) did elevate during the climbs, never was it excessive or critical in nature!
of course I let the truck pace itself at 55 mph and sometimes I would even shift manually keeping the rpm at or below 4500.

Max Tow is 7650, I have one.

OP's picture is a Rubicon, so 7K. IT's basically the same drivetrain, but the Rubicon is a bit heavier so it drops the towable weight some.
You are spot on here. You always lose something to get something, that's how it works when adding to or changing a Jeep. Not being a smart ass here or demean the thread commentors but I can't tell you how many times I have listened to guys with Jeeps who spend thousands of dollars to mod their vehicle adding countless pounds to the vehicle and then they complain about the mileage. The mileage sucks from the factory thanks to the constant detuning going on at the factories to meet increasingly unattainable emissions goals. If mileage matters to a person, then I advise them to not buy a Jeep.
well said!

I have a 25 ft. Lance 2185 travel trailer that weighs between 5800 - 6000 lbs. My 2020 Gladiator pulled it ok but I wanted to have just a little more reserve power when pulling up some of the more steeper grades in California and Oregon.

I outfitted the gladiator which my wife has named “popeye” with a Magnuson supercharger, which they claim boosts the output from 285 hp to around 440 hp. The difference in power is really, really awesome the wife says now it’s popeye after eating his spinach! It’s like having a V8 engine in a midsize pickup truck. when the tech at Magnuson took me on the first test drive after the install I about had a heart attack!! He made my truck do some things that I know I’ll never do in it again!

We also installed a flow master high-flow catback exhaust system that makes it sound like a street racer. I am wondering if anyone else have a supercharged gladiator out there?

There are a few Magnusons installed here on the forum. What Tune did you use and who did the install and the final tune?

My install was done by a local shop and the final tune was completed by magnuson.

The "premium fuel" thing is a little misleading.

First you need to understand what this premium fuel is actually doing and why you need it. The higher octane helps against preignition, which really is only a problem under wide open throttle loads. Under normal cruising conditions you don't need max octane. But even then if the engine control systems are working properly you'll never get into preignition anyway. The ECU will retard timing and adjust fuel mixture based off a variety of sensors and data it receives. Premium fuel or not, you should theoretically never get into preignition anyway. But that extra little bit of octane might help lessen the auto-detuning the vehicle computer will do under boost or high engine loads.

The rest of "premium fuel"? Additives and bullshit we don't really need.
