Has anyone added a set of air bags to his/hers suspensions? If so, how does the Jeep ride when loaded and when empty?

I did a Hemi swap through Americas Most Wanted 4x4, I also swapped the lift I had with a Teraflex 3"-4", designed for the engine's heavier weight. The problem I have, is that once I add the bed rack, roof top tent and other tools, my bed is a lot lower than it should be.

So my options are, add air bags, which from what I hear, will make the ride terrible, at the very least, when I dont have the rack and roof top tent on. But it might ride fine, when the bed is loaded. or change the rear springs, to another brand. But then I have to worry about spring rate (that's what I was told from the mechanic that installed the engine and lift.), and who even knows which ones will work anyway?

I ran them for a short while. They will firm up the ride slightly when running empty ... loaded with a small amount of weight for your day to day might help with this. The issues I had were related to the air lines ... the Firestone airlines are a type of hard nylon ... I first had the line crack at the top of the bag right at the screw fitting. the second time I had an issue and it ended up being that the fitting loosened up. I already had everything pulled apart, so I just pulled the bags.

Would I run them again? ... probably. However I would swap the line for a flexible polyurethane and maybe thread lock the screw fitting.

accuair has a nice setup...about $7K I think--full air ride.

Check out the Gladiator on Way of Life. The air suspension system is pretty awesome to see in action. Since you have the hemi swap, you'll likely need it custom sized for the new weight.

Thank you all for the info. I did see the Acuuair suspension. Really cool how they do that, but with that system you can only run 37s and I currently have 40s. Plus it's super expensive. I think I will end up going with the just air bags. Especially since I have 2 compressors and 2 bottles where the spare tire was, so I can air up and also for the Dynatrack 60s axles/air lockers.

Do you know which model Firestone air bags you had?

I have a set from Timber Grove. I love them. Super stout, and they don't really affect ride quality when unloaded if you air them down to the recommended 5-7psi. I like this setup because it puts the bags out wider than the in-spring bags, resulting in better stability, I feel...

The top bracket for the airbag in the picture. Is that part of the kit tha comes with the air bags or is it an original part of the Jeep?

The stainless ring with the bolts in it, comes with the kit from Timber Grove. You remove the OEM bumpstop, and clamp the top bracket of the bag to that bracket.
