Was wondering if it's possible to swap hoods? I have heard mixed messages on this...especially when it comes to the Mojave hood. I just had a bad hail storm and would be interested in upgrading the Overland hood to either a Rubicon or Mojave hood. Can you clear the air?

Hi Grant,

There are no dimensional changes. The fenders are the same and so are the grilles so yes it can be swapped. Let me know if you need any part info or pricing.

Thanks,
- Benny

I put a Rubicon hood on my Sport S with no issues.

Mojave hood is not a swap, it is on a couple other threads, but you need Mojave side cowlings and also front cowling along vent. Mojave and Rubicon hoods both have nonfunctional hood scoops but can easily be modified to be functional.

You can see in this comparison. The area in front of the windshield hinge on the Mojave is flat going forward. On the Sport/Overland/Rubi it starts a bit lower and slopes downward going forward. Then on the side cowl piece in front of the a-pillar, again it is almost flat coming forward from the base of the windshield on the Mojave. On the Sport/Overland/Rubi it starts from a much lower point. These pieces would have to be swapped as well as the hood for the Mojave. (I believe this is the hood and setup they will use for the V8)

This is good info and certainly something I did not originally catch. While there are a few more parts required it still looks very feasible to do.

This would be why the insurance company denied the claim for the new hood :(

Benny,

I tried searching your site for those part numbers and they do not show up. Can you post links to them or reply here with prices next to them please?

I offered to and they simply said no. Never had that happen to me.
That's weird. In the past, I have just received a check from the insurance company to fix (or not) as I please. Of course, they are only going to pay you what their preferred guys will estimate, but you have the right to take it wherever you want and/or do it yourself. I'd push back on your agent and escalate as needed.

One other big difference is the Mojave hood is steel, it’s heavy and acorn and walnut resistant, been tested in my driveway. I ordered redline tuning hood lift struts and the Mojave and export jeep hoods have a different part number, and the Mojave is a lot stiffer struts then my wifes JL!....Jack
