The Rubicon and all other trims would need a lift with the 37 except Mojave correct? So now we are talking about another what 3k out of pocket. and if I don't go with a Rubicon then I'm going to need to add ARB lockers to the other trims.

If I can 22mpg with 37s I would be ecstatic!
If you dont do much off roading why do you need lockers?

If you are 4 wheelin it may be adequate. If you are running highway speeds on perfectly level ground it may be adequate. If you are man trans it may be adequate. But anything else you should regear. 4.88 minimum with 37's. This will keep you in the power zone. anyone else sayin different is just foolin themselves. Trying to go up hills and maintain highway speed is going to be painful! Like 4500 rpm and 8MPG painful!

I still get myself in trouble with those Hold My Beer Moments and the locker on my Taco has saved me not having to get out and winch. It's not rocky terrain like you guys here in the Gulf but sand and mud, oh yes..

I would love to drive the diesel and gasser with 37' to see how they handle but don't see that happening. Unless I'm driving one of ya'lls. So all I can do is go by your experience with them.

I think I'm going with the with the 4.1 gear and diesel. I don't plan on it being a hotrod anyway, plus we don't have any hills down here to worry about, just flatness. I'll probably pay for it when I go to Colorado but that is only 2 time a year in winter.

One thing that figured in for me on the MT vs AT choice was that the shifter and clutch in the Gladiator are both pretty crappy. The shifter is sloppy with hugely long throws. The clutch engagement is abrupt and too close to the top.

It sounds like you think that if you get the Rubicon, a diesel can be had from the factory with 4.11 gears. It can't be had that way. The diesel Rubicon has 3.73s. At least, that is what the jeep.com configurator shows.

You are correct, I was trying to figure out any configuration with trims last night on jeep website that gave me the option of having the 410 gearing and diesel engine and was unsuccessful. I thought some members were running this.

Yes, then you can say things like locked and loaded, plus browny points for the rubi stickers + cooler hood.

3.73 with the diesel is plenty. I have 37s and have never needed 4lo, this engine just has so much torque down low that unless it is the steepest of inclines, you will never need it. I mean I climbed the rock in 4Hi, no lockers, just the sway bar disconnected and it just went.

The diesel is a completely different machine, it cannot be had in a manual because the manual trans and related components in the JT currently would need to be upgraded substantially.

The crawl speed with stock gearing in a diesel is probably better if not equal to 4.10’s in any Jeep. Remember the engine’s torque is also a factor when selecting gear ratios by the engineers.

I have my doubts because of this statement from on the website.

The SportShifter attaches directly to the OEM shift cable, includes installation instructions and all hardware necessary for an easy at home installation.
I have an automatic but saw the thread and I have seen the part out there… so I decided to share just in case.

That's true, but I think all @dcmdon was saying is that the crawl ratio on the manual is so low you don't have to worry about stalling. I'm going to venture to say crawl speed is lower on the Manual Rubicon though. It's so low that first is almost unusable for most normal uses and second still has you crawling at the same speed as the autos. It's very easy to drive in 4 low with the manual and the 4:1 transfer case. I like the clutch and the shifter on the Mt, but clutch feel is light. Much lighter than on our JK. Overall, I like clutch and shifter of the JT much better than on our JK. The shifter is probably one of my favorites of any vehicle I've owned. The clutch feels good off-road to me. I like it. To each his own though. I'm entirely out of my element in any automatic. just not used to it. I've gone out with automatic JTs a few times, and the Manual holds its own. I'm glad it's offered still. Kept me out of a Tacoma.
