  • Adding 37s will kill your acceleration and fuel efficiency in the gasser
We will agree to disagree ....my gasser with 37x13.5s, 3 inch lift, steel bumpers and 4:88s accelerates very well AND gets 18.5+ all day long. Holds 8th gear as well. Couldn’t be more pleased.

That's true, but I think all @dcmdon was saying is that the crawl ratio on the manual is so low you don't have to worry about stalling. I'm going to venture to say crawl speed is lower on the Manual Rubicon though. It's so low that first is almost unusable for most normal uses and second still has you crawling at the same speed as the autos. It's very easy to drive in 4 low with the manual and the 4:1 transfer case. I like the clutch and the shifter on the Mt, but clutch feel is light. Much lighter than on our JK. Overall, I like clutch and shifter of the JT much better than on our JK. The shifter is probably one of my favorites of any vehicle I've owned. The clutch feels good off-road to me. I like it. To each his own though. I'm entirely out of my element in any automatic. just not used to it. I've gone out with automatic JTs a few times, and the Manual holds its own. I'm glad it's offered still. Kept me out of a Tacoma.
I love my Taco 6sp manual , But just can't take the doors and top off, so the bed has me able to switching to the JT even if I have to go to an automatic. It's been 20 plus years in manual but I'll get used to it.

So went to a dealer here in town to see what they would offer in prices if ordered, I configured the Rudi diesel and two sales person assured me that the 410 gearing came standard even with the upgrade to the diesel. I'm pretty skeptical from what I read that is not a option or has that changed? plus they said it would 4 to 5 month for delivery.

Salesman is 100% wrong diesel will definitely not get 4.10s even in rubi format. Maybe use this as an opportunity to get a free regear by having a stipulation that if it doesn't come with 4.10s they'll regear it for you haha

Can’t agree to disagree if you’re not having the same conversation, ?.

A manual tran with 4.10’s and 37s would be miserable. Throw in the 4.88’s and the ZF auto and you got yourself a Jeep. ?? Well done sir.

If that works well, it's a steal! I put a Hurst on my old Ranger, 20 years ago that was at least $200.
I put a hurst on my dad's Corvette. It came with a linkage.

That's why I was suspicious about how much the jeep one could help. If you look at the web page it says it uses the factory shift cable.

Mine on 37's with the 2-inch Mopar lift, and V6 w/auto trans. I don't do any extreme off roading that requires more flex than this kit provides, and it didn't break the bank. This is all you'll need for 37's on the Rubi. It's definitely slower "off the line" with the bigger tires, but I knew that going in. I've lost 8th gear for the most part, but I don't do a lot of interstate driving, so no big deal for me. But, I probably will re-gear at some point down the road. For now I'm just picking/choosing additional suspension parts to beef up what's already there (upgraded ball joints, etc.). I love the way it handles/rides with this lift/tire combo.

I installed the lift myself because I love wrenching on my own ride when I can, and I like breaking my knuckles and bleeding any chance I get. My undercarriage would look like a hazmat scene under a black light. But I saved some $$$, and I loved every minute of it.

What I learned back then was that internally shifted manuals (Mazda 5 spd on my Ford) work differently to the externally shifted, what you're getting is more leverage combined with a shorter throw. That's why it looks so different to an externally shifted kit. I helped a neighbor (held bolts) with a '66 Malibu and a Muncie, TOTALLY different setup, for sure!

Hello,

Newbie here to the Jeep world,
Been reading and researching online and this forum and the crazy amount of information out there. ? I thought I wanted the diesel but that $6,000.00 upgrade seems a little steep and I will not be getting a manual transmission which I'm not sure I want to give up. How has it been going from a manual transmission to the 8HP75 auto transmission if you made the switch?
I going to go with 37' tires and it looks like the only trims that have the right gearing is the Rubicon or Mojave with the 4.10 gearing. That seem to work fine for most with out re-gearing. But I'm thinking the diesel with work better with the 37" tires or am I wrong?
With the Mojave not having the option for the diesel I'm at a decision of getting the Mojave V6 with manual transmission or the Rubicon with diesel and auto transmission. This is going to be my daily drive and hauling construction material in the bed every now and then.
I don't do much off-roading any more but typically my fist addition to my rides is a winch to get me out off most situations on the beach or mud.
Any advise or link to other threads that would be helpful will be appreciated.

Thanks
Rubicon Diesel comes with 3.73s from the factory...... your post reads as if you do not realize this. I have read many other post saying (*diesel) runs fine with factory gears on 37s. I am looking at 37s and leaving the stock gears installed.... But I'm still deciding on which lift to get. Thinking of the Mopar, but its incomplete and needs another $500 in parts... so maybe another brand with everything included ?? Good luck with your decision(s).

I have the diesel and it has significant power with 37s on 73s. I will however be looking to regear to at least 4.10 if not 4.56 in the future because that's where the system is engineered to operate best.

Plus I want my 2-3 mpgs back.

the Diesel is the best decision I ever made on a vehicle. the 8 speed is a dream to drive. with the Nitto 37's and the Diesel, I don't have much wheel spin. I've been driving jeeps since 1972 and everytime I get in the Gladiator, I feel like a teenager. the power with the Diesel is amazing. with all the junk and tires, I get 23 mph on the road. The Rubicon is also worth the money. There is nothing like wheeling with a Diesel.

Thanks guys and all who have replied, I'm definitely going with the diesel because the 3.73 gearing seems to be able to can handle the 37 and still have pretty good MPG compared to my 12-13mpg I get right now. Thinking about saving money for the mods 2.5" lift, shocks, tires, bumpers, winch I would do with any trim so make scene to go with lower trim like Willys Sport.

Did you recalibrate your speedometer?

What's missing? I thought it's complete. No one else has mentioned it wasn't complete.

Just my thoughts, and many others dont agree. My thoughts are if I stayed w/33's the mopar would be complete/fine.... but with adding 37's I fell it needs a little more, even if just for piece of mind. Check this video out, explains things better than me.... lol But mainly, I'm talking about adding track bars and steering damper/stablelizer. Keep in mind, I have no real world experience with this, just trying to do my homework before mine delivers (so I got awhile).
