Late to the party... Tazer? Yeah, I carried one years ago for perps with less-than -Lethal circs.

On my Jeep, never.

I believe the Tazer extension just plugs into the SGW ports and the Tazer plugs into it.

Tazer connects to the cables you remove from the SGW. The extensions just hang there making it easier to plug the factory cables back to the SGW when tazer is removed. You plug the factory cables to the extensions when you remove the tazer.

They provide an extension from where they are mounted under the dash. There are no instructions on the Tazer suite other than that lame video.

@JTGuy

Actually, the ZAutomotive provided video in regard to the ZAutomotive security gateway extension cable is not at all "lame".

Since you obviously do not know how to use the ZAutomotive security gateway extension cable you might just want to read to read through this thread so you do know..

Indeed, the SGW Extension Cable is a blessing of sorts .... to those of us that have a Tazer JL, a SmartStopStart unit, use JSCAN and other such goodies that attach at the JL/JT security gateway.

Related Trivia:

The SGW Extension Cable is fabricated in China.... thus the "Made In China" label on the bag that the/your SGW Extension Cable was packaged in.

Joe Z. (ZAutomotive) was unable to source this particular extension cable from a USA supplier.

Lots of JL owner's were hounding Joe to come up with an SGW Extension Cable... no extension cable was forthcoming... Joe was having trouble sourcing the offering,

Anyway, SwissSteph a JL forum member from Switzerland got a Chinese company to make the cable.. He / Swisssteph was on a mission so to speak and did all the leg work.... he contacted a company in China and got them what they needed know, to fabricate the cable... and to send it to Swisssteph in Switzerland.

Then, SwissSteph came to the JL forum and told his tale... that he acquired a SGW Extension Cable.

Right away, I told Joe about SwissSteph and him getting the company in China to make the cable and Joe, immediately contacted that Chinese company (with the info provided by SwissSteph) and placed a big order for them .....Joe began ordering the cable in quantity, from that Chinese company..

Joe was smart thinking as usual and told the Chinese fabricator of the cable to wrap it it in black cloth like the Jeep factory used versus the plastic wrapping that the Chinese had used.. this way if anyone looked at the installed SGW Extension Cable they would think it was a factory installed cable.

SO.... that is the story about the terrific SGW Extension Cable, we all LOVE.

Thanks again, SwissSteph ! Thanks, Joe!

It's a lot like an extension cord that allows you to use an outlet buried behind the couch without pulling the couch out each time you want to unplug, or plug something in. You plug it into the SGW and leave the part plugged into the SGW at all times. You make your connections as normal but no longer have to touch that SGW to get to the factory harness ends to plug things in like tazer or a bypass cable for jscan or alfaobd and so on. I really appreciate the factory type wrap!

For those that take apart the dash for knee speaker or other upgrades, that would be a good time to move the factory SGW. I just added the factory bed outlet, and removed the speaker box to unbury the inverter switch cable. Moved my SGW to the bottom of my Lasfit hood release for now until I find a better place.

The SGW is screwed into the back of the speaker housing on 20-23 models. Not sure on 24+.

I think the SGW will plug in easier than the plugs came out. The extension seems of high quality.

Definite pain in the arse to get to those connectors. Took me several attempts over multiple days before I finally got them out. Rubicon-X and Mohave-X have an extra black bar that limits access. Maybe a wife or teenager with smaller hands can help do the trick.

All the best. Some pics linked here.

(50) Has anyone with a 2024 installed a TAZER or ECRI | Page 2 | Jeep Wrangler Forums (JL / JLU) -- Rubicon, 4xe, 392, Sahara, Sport - JLwranglerforums.com

"Got it. Tried with a different shorter length narrow screw driver to hold the tabs in while reaching up with my right hand, pulled on the wires, and they popped right out so easily I was in awe. The longer screw driver kept slipping off the tab when I would reach up in there." That black bar shown in the picture in the linked post really limits access, no way two hands will fit in there.

EDIT to add: Also, take the door connections off so you can open it up wide and have more room to contort yourself to get up under there. A headlamp helps to see what is going on.
Thanks for posting that link! I installed one in my 21 JLU in 5 minutes. 24 Mojave I couldn’t even find the stupid plugs. Now I know where to find them and just ordered the harness extension so I don’t have to try and reach that spot ever again. You are awesome

My 2020 and 2022 were hard to reach, but I could see them and get it done. I can't even find them on the 25. They've made a lot of changes to that dash in 24/25.

I had a heck of time removing the stock sgw wires and then adding the tazer sgw cable in my 25 JT Mojave.
But is the loose end of the sgw cable extension supposed to plug in to the tazer mini or do you use the original sgw wires?

The Tazer replaces the SGW, so the wires that originally went to the SGW now plug into the Tazer. The extension cable plugs into the SGW on one end, and nothing on the other while you are using the Tazer. The extension cable is just there so you don't have to struggle to reach the SGW in the future if/when you remove the Tazer, like many people do before going to the dealer. Perfect analogy from a previous post in this thread:

This is how I have it set up but the jl mini does not turn on.No light blinking at all.
Before I used the extension cable the jl mini did turn on.
I had a jl mini on my old JT and had zero issues so I’m kind of at a loss here with what’s going on.No response from Tazer auto so I’m about to just ship the jl mini back.

With the Tazer installed, the extension cable is not connected to the tazer. The extension is plugged into the SGW on one end, and hanging loose on the other end. The SGW is not connected to anything at this point, you could literally remove it and the extension cable and throw it away if you never ever planned on removing the taser for any reason. The only time the extension cable is electrically part of your Jeep is when the taser is removed and the SGW is reconnected. The extension cable can not possibly have any effect on the operation of the taser.

So, assuming you have everything installed properly, meaning the factory wires that were plugged into the SGW are now plugged into the taser JL mini, the extension cable is not part of the troubleshooting equation. When you installed the taser, did you leave it just hanging by the wires, did you tuck it up somewhere and zip tie it, or did you use an aftermarket mounting bracket?

The first time I installed a JL Mini, I just tucked it up into the wiring and hanging from the plugs. Months later, when I started having some random issues, someone suggested making sure the plugs in the tazer were seated properly. I checked, and I was able to push them back in a tiny bit. After I did that, the problems went away. For anther 6 months, and then the same thing happened. So I ordered this mounting bracket, and never had the problem again on that Jeep or the next 3 Jeeps with Tazers + mounting bracket.

TLDR: Make sure the wires are plugged in tight to the tazer.

I made a 3D printed magnetic holder to mount the tazer in under the dash, kept it from 'hanging' around on the cables -
