I have the Tazer Mini and keep it in the truck installed. If I want to use the JSCAN from time to time, do I need to UNMARRY the tazer, or just unplug the Tazer to then use the JSCAN software. I know I need the 8+12 cable into the SGW to "write" to the jeep with the OBD dongle.

Unmarry the Tazer. Use Jscan to make all the changes. Then marry the Tazer. That way, all the changes are not lost when the Tazer is unmarried for dealer visits.

Still the same. Since you have both, use Jscan for any programming changes and use the Tazer just for the live features. Unmarry the Tazer whenever making changes with Jscan, then remarry when finished.

Unless you plan to keep your JT until it goes to the crusher, I would agree with Bill's answer. Heck, even if you DO intend to keep it forever, I still agree.
I do the same thing, only with AlfaOBD instead of Jscan.
Even if you never intend to go back to a dealer, there may be some recall or other unplanned reason you have to in the future.

EXACTLY! Had the dealer correct a warranty things from the previous owner, when I got the truck back (no known recalls/etc) and I can tell they reflashed my truck because the EVIC screen was WAY faster (still is) and I have less bugs with my Tazer than I did before.
- Even if you go in for routine maintenance, they may check for an update to any of the modules.

It depends on what type of state you want your trucks computer modules to be in and if you're worried about the dealership finding changes made. The whole point of the marry/unmarry process is two-fold:

1) it prevents users from using one Taser license across multiple vehicles
2) it reverts settings back to factory default to "hide" that you've made changes in hopes to not void warranties

In addition to number 2, it inadvertently allows us to save settings when also using a JSCAN.

When you marry a Taser, it takes a snapshot of the current vehicle settings. When you unmarry, it reverts everything back to that snapshot.

If you MAKE CHANGES WITH JSCAN BEFORE YOU MARRY THE TASER, the Taser takes a snapshot that includes those JSCAN changes. When you unmarry those JSCAN changes are STILL present. This is best if you want to easily restore your settings if the dealership wipes your software.

If you MARRY A TASER BEFORE MAKING JSCAN CHANGES, when you unmarry the Taser you will also lose those JSCAN changes. This is best if you want the best way to get your truck back to stock computer configurations, marry your Taser when the ECM is at factory default. That way you have a bone stock configuration in snapshot.

Things to note:
Once you marry a Taser after changes have been made with a JSCAN, you make it difficult to revert back to factory default without a complete software wipe and reload, or without going through each and every setting and manually changing it.

I dont know if this is possible in Jscan, since I don't have that. But with AlfaOBD the very first thing I do is make a backup file with all the settings as it came from the dealer. That way if I need to I can always revert back.

Thank you...but I am a little lost here. do you mean "unplug" the tazer not unmarry"?
B/C how do you make changes with JSCAN until you "unplug" or "unmarry" the tazer?
on the 2024 I need to use the 8+12 into the SGW so "unplug" or "unmarry" what the diff?
This was my original question and how it relates to the order or operations.
Example my truck has the tazer installed (no JSCAN) "unmarry" and the truck is back to stock.
I understand that, what if I "unplug" not "unmarry" it? is this where I can use JSCAN to make changes knowing that IF I then "unmarry" the tazer I will lose my JSCAN settings?

Unplugged and unmarried are different. You can unplug without unmarrying. Marry/unmarry is something you do in the Taser settings. It links that Taser license to the truck VIN/serial number. It has nothing to do with the physical plugged in state.

You dont need to unmarry the Taser to use JSCAN. Just unplug the Taser, plug in the JSCAN, make your changes, unplug JSCAN, plug Taser back in. If you do it this way, if you ever unmarry your Taser then all of those JSCAN changes will be erased.

If you dont want to lose JSCAN settings in the event you ever unmarry your Taser, then you want to make those JSCAN setting changes while the Taser is unmarried.

Whatever the configuration is when you marry your Taser, that is what the configuration will return to when you unmarry it.

Think of it this way;

ANY CHANGES MADE WHILE NOT MARRIED CAN BE CONSIDERED PERMANENT. The ony way they will change back is if you manually change them, or the dealership reflashes the software.

ANY CHANGES MADE WHILE MARRIED WILL ONLY STAY WHILE THE TASER IS MARRIED. These changes will be lost if the Taser is ever unmarried.

Lets say you are unmarried and you use JSCAN to change tire size. This setting is now permanent.
You then marry your Taser. Tire size is still set to what you made it because thats what it was when you married, and the Taser now has it in its snapshot.
A year later you regear and used JSCAN to change your gear ratio WITHOUT unmarrying your Taser first.
Now your tire size is still permanent, but your gear ratio is dependent on the Taser being married. If you unmarry you keep your tire size, but you lose your gear ratio.
BUT, if you unmarry your Taser first, then use JSCAN to change the gear ratio, and then remarry, now both tire size and gear ratio are permanent.

I haven't looked at my JSCAN that deep yet, but I'm sure it has the option. I use it for soot levels and forced regens mostly. Everything else I need the Taser can do.
