Their printed/pdf instructions are terrible. Really bad.
Yeah, really really bad :giggle:. Have the printed pdf sitting under the seat, but if I need to change something I just follow a youtube video. Takes half the time than figuring out what they tried to say. I have heard that the manual can be deciphered once you get the logic and thought process behind it when they wrote it, but...

(in Germany) Did all the playing around and testing while a cop (no uniform) walked by and asked me about the truck and the lights... thank god he was a petrol head. Into Audi, but a tuner, so I got off with the advice to use it only when I am on private property.

It sucks for me and English is my first language. I couldn't image even trying if German was my first language. Ha.

Hey all,

I have a 22 Rubicon Diesel. I have been eyeballing the tazer mini, but I am scared of messing up my diesel. Love all the features of what they claim it can do. Would only buy direct from Z automotive. Just want to hear you guys either talk me out of it, or light my fire to buy the damned thing.
I've used flash paqs and piggy back tuners on other vehicles with mixed results. Don't want to mess up my ride, and void a warranty.
Lend me your opinions.
LOVING my Tazer Mini on my JTRD. Have had installed for maybe a year now, and have had 0 issues. JUST put 37's on and updating tire size was piece-o-cake!

Its not about hiding the fact that you use a Tazer so much as it is that they may blame its presence for them having trouble reading certain things.

My dealer told me that they have no problems with me having it. But if I come in with a problem and it is solved by unmarrying the tazer and removing, then they will charge me for that work.

Also, they said that if they have trouble scanning the truck and have to remove it they will charge me for that labor.

These are all reasonable things. I know the latest firmware is supposed to allow the factory scan tool to work properly while its installed. But why even bother.

If you want the dealer to do any diagnostic on your truck, just remove it and return the settings to factory.

Re it not being terrible to remove. I'm 54 and in good shape. I run, I bike, I rock climb, I lift weights. But I'm still 54. It sucks to remove. If you are 20, then have at it. But I dont enjoy lying on my back in the drivers footwell. My clothes get dirty. I need a head lamp to see things. It just generally sucks.
Ill be 54 in February, so you cant use that excuse compared to me

My point is, it really depends on the dealer.
Personally, I distrust all of them and will never give them an out or excuse to deny warranty.
Sadly, too many try to deny warranty for B.S. reasons

Called Banks. They said part of it would work. All the "Live" features will interrupt the derringer and cause it to turn on and off. So all the features that work when you plug it in, marry it and then unplug it will work.

If you only want features Jscan can handle, then yea that is probably a better way to go. But if you read the thread, the majority of the features the OP actually wants can not be done with Jscan.

And like mentioned above, if you only want the features jscan CAN do, you don't have to leave the taser plugged in, and it's a single self contained solution.
It doesn't require an app on a $500 smart phone to work.
It doesn't require special adapter cables to work.
And it doesn't require a 3rd party electronic device they don't make or sell, and won't even say for sure if most out there will work with it or not.
Im responding to the original question, not reading through everything, but jscan has on there site what 3rd party electronics are compatible, pretty sure most people have a smart phone they came out in 2007 .... so not a cost worth adding
but youre right needs a $18 cable from amazon and a $30 3rd party adapter then I think its a $25 charge on an app but you can also pay for more vehicles licenses like it did and no need to take it out when you go to the dealer like the tazer. also the tazer has bad directions from factory on pdf and is harder to use and instal without a learning curve. If you cant manage a smart phone then I cant see you getting the tazer right. but if you want the plugged in features then yeah tazer it is

Yes, Jscan has a page of adapters that are recommended to work. On that page exactly TWO adapters are recommended for a Jeep JT Gladiator. Neither is even close to $30, so I guess you gambled on something else and got lucky. The Tazer's instructions are not bad, they are as clear as can be as to what someone is required to do. And at least it has instructions. Jscan doesn't. It's website doesn't even tell you what it can or can't do. The website literally tells you to install the app first and find out. And unless you drill down in the online troubleshooting faq, you won't know that some features in jscan actually need a specific process to ensure the changes take properly. A process much like the Tazer's. Hmmmm.

And again, there is no need to leave the tazer in if you are only using features found on Jscan. But why is removing it a big deal? You have to install AND remove the Jscan adapter every single time you want to change something, right?

And for the record, I actually know several people who do not own smartphones. Shocking but true. Just today I came across my old Nokia flip phone. I was reminded about how small and durable and reliable it was, and how it only needed to be charged once a week. How it actually worked far better as a phone than my current smart phone that takes up my entire pocket, I have to treat like it's made of glass (because it is), and can't go a full day without needing a charger or making me read a work-related email when I'm not getting paid to work. I tossed the Nokia in the trash, but I'm still not sure those people without the "smart" phone are not the smarter people.

Jscan I changed the setting once and unplugged it, didn't have to unmarry it, didn't have to go back and change things, just plugged it in once. I can basically sell the obd2 and security cable because i won't need it again in a perfect world lol

I meant to type $60 for the obd2

the tazer when you unplug it and drive to dealership everything goes back to factory, so if you're trying to diagnose a problem when driving the live features wouldn't work making diagnoses harder, saw it a few times on here it causing more issues at the dealer

simpler times with the older nokias, I still have my brick nokia from 2002, but was just saying it shouldn't be added to the price when comparing jscan and tazer because most already have smart phones. my iphone i think it's an X pro last a few days if i dont watch videos

both at purpose built, ones easier to use, one is harder to use but has more features and a live setting, to each there own, was just letting op know why i chose the jscan if they cared

Thanks for all the input. I have the Tazer installed now, and it's working fine. I don't suppose anyone has info on button mapping or more specifically how it's done? There was mention of it for some features, but the instructions don't say how to do it.

Thanks again everyone for being so helpful.

For me it was being able to use the Rubicon lockers when I darn well please. You pay a ton of money for these things and the nanny limits are unacceptable.

On my TJ I installed 2 separate switches and tapped 3 wires to remove all nannys from the lockers and engage the front without the rear.
?
as far as the Tazer directions. They get you 90% of the way with no hassle. Maybe its because I am in I.T. and also a seasoned HP Tuner, but I had zero issues with the Tazer directions.
