First off, the Canyon is one of the best looking on the road- that's a nice looking truck.

Secondly, that's not just a GMC thing. GM paint has been legendarily awful. Every GM vehicle I've ever had came from the factory with swirl marks.
I had a new 1978 TransAm that had to be repainted because I could see the red primer through the black paint on the roof. I thought by now they would have fixed their painting process.

I just finished a week of detailing the Canyon. Going over it the way I do I get to see everything.
I have to admit, the Gladiator's exterior finishes, at least on the one I had, were done better.
The GMC paint has trash in it, especially on the roof.
Maybe they were painting these things outdoors down in Mississippi, but it's clearly not what it should be.
The body work, seals, fit, etc. are good.
They just don't know how to paint and clear.

That's a fair bit of chrome, looks good though. Once again, a gentleman's garage. ;) jeesh, where do you keep all your stuff, you have a barn out back?

I agree with the GM paint quality assessment. Back in '86 I bought a new Silverado, and the paint was off. This truck had 27 miles on it, had not been damaged in shipment or at the dealership, and still had paint issues. The hood and fenders were one shade of gold, the cab roof and doors another shade, and still another shade on the bed. It had an ivory color on the lower body that did match. I saw it being odd, but didn't really care since I was buying it to work out of, and was paying for it out of mileage pay that I received.

I can remember as a kid going to car shows with my dad him remarking about how the Corvettes all had swirls and grit in the paint... which caused me to notice it everywhere from there on out.

Speaking of, my father bought a brand new Sierra Denali a couple weeks ago and I have to admit, GM's interiors are looking damn fine. Paint OTOH... 😂

There's an upstairs in the garage and I also have another detached two car garage / workshop.
I am the opposite of a hoarder, however.

I would’ve been in a 2024 Canyon if GMC would’ve had their shit together - but they didn’t. There was one problem after another that delayed the new gen truck until April 2024. I was getting tired of waiting…. AND…not knowing what other problems would prop up after purchase (new gen introduction). My husband wasn’t a fan of the 4cylinder.

We’re not new to Jeeps….. So, my husband said…”What about getting a Gladiator?” We traded our 2016 Canyon SLT (V6) for the Mojave.
The 2016 Canyon was a great truck! Never had a lick of problems with it. And yes…the paint had a few ‘dirt particles’ under the clear coat. We noticed this when we bought it. The Dealership honored our request for an extended warranty on the paint. Never had any paint issues develop while we owned it.

The Tacoma? Not nearly as nice of a truck as the Canyon back in 2016. But then again - the Canyon is the more ‘upscale’ truck to its brother the Colorado. In 2016 - the Tacoma was still lacking in an abundance of options & upgrades compared to the Canyon. No power seats and no rear disc brakes (to name a couple of them).

As I always say… Once you get used to having all those nice upgrades & options that you enjoy…. It’s hard to go back to something that doesn’t have them. I think the Tacoma has always been a step behind in options/upgrades.

YOu’ll enjoy the Canyon…. I did. I can only hope this Gladiator will treat me just as well as the Canyon did (with no problems). I’m loving the JEEP thing again, lovin taking the top & doors off, loving the waves… That’s something the CAnyon doesn’t have.

I’m certainly not brand loyal anymore like we used to be.

QFT on both points.

I used to have very basic requirements: Clutch, AC and power windows. Then I bought a car with a sunroof... and then one with a touch screen, then one with lane keeping and smart cruise control... and then... ;)

Tacomas seem to have always played catch up with the competition but made up for it in bullet proof reliability, which is apparently not the case with the new generation. Aside from that I ruled those and the Ranger out of my search because... wait for it... I couldn't get a sunroof!

I found the Ranger to be small and cramped, and the Tacoma to feel cheap and underpowered.
BTW, I detailed the wife's 2019 Subaru Crosstrek yesterday and today, and the paint on body work on that thing beats the Gladiator and the Canyon.

Same here. I'm 6'1" and my first gen Taco was a bit of a squeeze but I made it work as a daily and road trip/camping/wheeling vehicle for years. I'd have thought in the latest generation they'd have addressed the poor seat geometry but no so much. I also think the Ford interior is meh. Their interior plastics are too soft and scuff/scratch way too easily.

Like I've said, if the Canyon AT4X didn't have those white leather accents, I'd be all over it. I can see it getting dingy quickly, especially the arm rests and center console trim. I know the Chebby doesn't have it but I prefer the GMC's front end. The AT4 interior in an AT4X would be perfect.

Agree on the accents. They seem very out of place.
