Well our Jeep transition was an interesting one. After I retired from the Army I was in Hawaii for a month for work(tough gig). 2 months prior I had paid off her Tahoe LTZ, it was mint, needed nothing and had everything. She calls and says she wants to trade for a new Mojito! Wrangler.......so needless to say when I got home on mothers day.......she got her new '19 JLUR fully color matched in Mojito!

Fast forward a couple years, After building our new house and selling our old one for a nice chunk of change......my time was up for me to custom order my JTM. Like others have said here......we talked about it or talked it up. We were down in OBX for our annual beach week. One morning my wife said, what are you doing? I relied with, the house is sold.....I'm ordering my Gladiator.

So now we have 2 Jeeps

mine just doesn't like my JT MPG and how much it costs to fill it up. She really hated the Borla exhaust i put on it so i took it off and put the stock one back on. Plus she thinks its very uncomfortable to be a passenger in. But she drives it every day because her commute is 1 mile and mine is 40 a day so i drive the hybrid.

These are great responses. It's so interesting how couples have different ways to operate. And certainly you go with whatever works.

My buddy has a wife that called him and asked for their insurance policy number. He asked why. She said because she was trading in her Lexus for a Mercedes. He had no idea.

I‘m baffled…and probably ‘old school’ - but…. How do you make such a large purchase like that without getting the spouse involved???

Either …….you have more money than you know what to do with, or you’re in debt up to your eyeballs.

My wife always encourages me when I mention buying a new vehicle, whether for myself or for her. That said, she hates the process and refuses to set foot in a dealership.
Back when I mentioned building a detached garage, she was great. Four times I came home with plans and four times she said “Not big enough”.
She is a Keeper.

I ordered a 2020 JLURD spec'd with everything I wanted. Wife added what she wanted to the list and when it arrived it was hers. Gave her car to my daughter. Fast forward two years and I ordered a JTRD (hate that acronym) for me. Best of both worlds

We direct deposit into a shared account enough to cover bills and savings. Neither of us cares what the other does with the rest of their income.

Same. As long as bills are paid, safety net is good and you're not buying crack and hookers who cares what you spend your money on. Even when I ask about input she just says do whatever makes you happy. It's great.

Mine gives me crap because it's "ugly" and "uncomforable" which makes no sense to me because her 21 Forester had seats that felt like they were cardboard set on a wooden deck. She also says its my "adult lego set" and I couldn't agree with her more on that one. I've got stock parts laying around various shelves in the garage. I'm always adding something. The funny thing is that now that I've started to try the social media thing, she's way more supportive. She says if I'm going to do it, we have to actually try because she isn't going to lie on our taxes. So now, if I say jeep event or jeep parts she just says "keep the reciepts"

A year ago, my wife told me she wanted a more capable vehicle for a daily driver in Rocky Mountain winters than her Jeep Compass. We looked at a number of SUVs and small pickups. A Dodge Durango Hemi Orange Edition with racing stripes, 5.7 V8, and 25 speaker stereo was a contender, but in the end, she chose a 2023 Gladiator Mojave with a Mopar lift and 35" tires. She loves it and drives it everywhere she goes. She doesn't worry about the weather anymore either.

The hard part of this is the expense for mods has gone up. A Motobilt front bumper, Warn 12K winch, RSE rock sliders, and a hard mounted GMRS radio for her Gladiator. Plus, our unwritten rule for the last 38 years... I can buy whatever I want for a Jeep, but that means she can buy whatever she wants of ~ equal value. I am no longer surprised when I see a furniture store truck backed up to our house unloading a new piece of furniture that I didn't know we needed. I guess that is better than seeing a moving van truck backed up to our house loading up all of her things as she is on her way out.

On my second glady. Wife really really wanted me to get a 2 door JL this time as she won't drive the JT as it's too big. She really is okay with the JT just pushed hard on a 2 door JL.
