anything I should know before getting one?
Im familiar with that ? def system. Ive heard some complaints on the diesel, but there are complaints on everything.

background.. ive had lifted trucks, lots of high performance sports carts, never had a wrangler or gladiator. current daily is a 4x4 grand cherokee that ill prob trade in for this diesel gladiator rubicon. just moved to evergreen colorado so need something for the snow. i mostly work from home but will need to commute an hour prob a couple times a week. light trails, not going extreme rock crawling.

longterm mod plans arent extensive. prob a small 2-3" lift kit and 37s.. programmer, cai, exhaust.

Full send, I love mine. Albeit, after just two weeks. Some complain of derating issues when towing in hotter weather, I’ll really be able to test this when summer comes around here in the desert.

Order exactly the truck you want. Look at the ordering and negotiating sub-fourm, use a volume dealer for the best deal, or at least use their quotes to leverage your local dealer to actually deal. You can save a lot of money and get the exact truck you want.

A 2 inch lift is easy to fit 37’s under too, especially on a Rubicon or Mojave.

Anytime, I can’t recommend Kent at Peterson Jeep in Nampa, ID enough. Easy dealing with and the best price up front.

I have 1500 miles on mine, so a bit new still.

But let's put it this way, I would not have gotten the gladiator if the only engine option was the 3.6 v6. I had the 3.6 in my 2014 wrangler and it was a dog. Youd have to rev it 4500rpm to get any real power out of it... The only reason I chose the gladiator was because of the diesel engine. It's a great engine and has amazing power. If I cruise at 60-65mph on the highway, I can get around 28-30mpg. When I go 85-90mph I'm still getting 17-18mpg.

The big negative that I'm facing right now is the bottoming out issue. It doesn't happen everyday but im cautious of big bumps... my plan is to lift it and put on 37s in the next couple of months so the bottoming out issue wasn't really a concern for me anyway.

Love my 2021 JTRD! I test drove the Mojave but didn't have enough power for me. I am running the 2" Mopar lift with 37's. I am getting 21.8 MPG. I have a 45 min commute to work every day. I set the cruise at 75 MPH. Current mileage is just above 25,000. We recently purchased a Wildwood FSX 178BHSK. We have towed it from our home in Central Ohio to Gatlinburg Tn, Hocking Hills Oh, Akron Oh and East Harbor State Park Oh. We have had no problems Towing it what so ever. I tow at 65 MPH and through the mountains a lot slower around 45 MPH. Be sensible and you'll be fine. We went to Moab this past spring. It was our first rock crawling experience. WOW was i impressed! I crawled right up Hells Gate without a problem. I high centered one time on Hells Revenge and had to back up and try a different line. Other than that it has climbed anything I have put it up against without slipping a tire.

As of this morning I have 0 issues at 6K miles.
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I come from a list of owned diesels, and won't own another gas motor.

Before you leave the dealership with it, have them take the timing cover off and reseal it properly. Otherwise you'll be back to the dealership before the first oil change doing it.

Other than the shitty build quality and the terrible $10,000 Bosch CP4 grenade they try to pass off as a fuel injection system, these new Gen 3 engines are great and they make really good power. Fuel economy is also excellent in stock form...will go away quickly with mods but that's to be expected.

I ordered an Overland fully equipped and just love it. I have driven 6500 miles, Mostly highway... and I'm with trailless on the diesel. I saw how high the gasser needed to rev and said no way am I going to spend hours on the road listening to an engine scream. It pulls my 5k trailer at 65mph /1900 rpm and never had any issues with overheating. Empty I'm getting 29mpg avg, towing around 22. I am all stock 18" tires - if you plan on putting big tires on it expect your road mileage to drop off quite a bit. It is a blast to drive and even with stock tires you would need to work at getting it stuck.
Also - It does NOT have great payload numbers but its enough for me and my wife. The gasser sport with max towing has the best payload... nearly 500lbs more.

My only advice is -- to be clear about what your going to use the truck for, run the numbers, then decide if its right for you.
If your numbers work you will really like this truck.

Rubicon is the rock crawler.
Maybe the Overland if your doing mods anyway?
BTW, initial purchase price means jack, there is an aftermarket part for close to every OEM part on these. Extensive opportunities to make the JT your own AND lighten your wallet.?

The CP4 pump is definitely an issue. Mines blew in the middle of nowhere, and I had to get towed to nearest dealer.

It took 7 weeks to get all the back-ordered parts in, and fix. I called dealers across the country, trying to find the needed parts and expedite the fix, but all the parts were already accounted for by customers with the same issue. All the dealers said the same thing, that they had 3 to 4 cars in, for the same issue.

It seems the Bosch CP4 needs better quality diesel fuel than the minimum US requirement. Jeep knew this, as Bosch fully discloses it. Yet, still they put this grenade pump in the engine...

Mine happened at 26k miles. Hopefully you all have better luck.

I ordered a fully loaded JTRD. Do yourself a favor and install the mopar 2 inch lift. Fixes the bottoming out issues and frankly ... the JTRD just looks great with a small lift. I also have a 3/4 inch front spacer to level the truck. Like another poster mentioned .... I would not have bought this Jeep if it was not diesel. I had a F350 turbo diesel in the past and it was AMAZING. You will be addicted to the power of this diesel. I plan on keeping mine a long time. 1st time I've ever purchased an extended factory warranty. New wheels were placed. As soon as the stock tires wear out .... 37's will go on. Just a fun platform to modify and have fun in.

You’ll love the diesel in the mountains. My JTRD could pull away from my wife’s WK2 (V6) while we were vacationing in CO this Summer.

Exactly why I'll be doing a sport (Altitude). Most components (susp mainly) will be replaced after broken in. No point in paying extra for mediocre oem components. Especially if u can do the work urself. But to each their own.

Sport S diesel, a little over 13k miles, good so far, but it's new so issues might be a part of ownership. If you're expecting great gas mileage then buy a Honda Accord, if you're expecting pulling power then buy a 1 ton.
