" causing MAYBE under certain conditions the air bags to go when they might not have otherwise."

Interesting. I completely removed my bumper so I suppose there is is a chance my air bags could deploy in a subtle altercation. As long as they deploy before the Warn winch plate makes contact with my face I'll be happy.

My first encounter of the Bamby kind was in early 70s in western Colorado, hit it with a government GMC Carryall. A very heavy built truck. The GMC was totaled, entire front end was destroyed. We were doing 45 amazing amount of damage. WE were told to be glad we didn't hit an elk.

My wife and I take drives to Lemington quite often I definitely will be keeping my eyes more open now!! What area did you have the mishap?? I like travelling the old #3!
This was on Hwy. #3 between County Rd. #18 and the Inman Sideroad. Right about the irrigation pond for Abbruzzese apple orchard. A notorious spot for deer on the highway.

Folks were complaining about the aftermarket bumper (that that OP had) - saying it was too thin (experienced damage). Similar to anything you mount on the front…. I’d rather see the bumper (OEM or aftermarket) crumble first before damaging other parts.

Another thing that you have to consider….. Airbags. Most folks don’t think about it. Any aftermarket bumper should be ‘airbag compatible’. To ensure the airbag sensors (where-ever they are) can sense a collision and deploy as they would with the OEM setup.

Really good point. Now that you mention this, I am not sure if this bumper is compatible. Airbags did not go off, but the impact was mainly on the passenger side and that seat was empty. Something I need to look into. Thanks for the warning, and hope this helps others in their bumper selection process.

This guy showed up in the parking lot where I work Monday morning. All 4 legs were broken. Called the game warden. He finished him off. Said he images that the deer is over 200 lbs. He was a nice 8 point.

That's sad, the older I get the more I like animals over people.

I have a 8 pointer, a doe and 2 yearlings around my house nightly that I watch/observe.

There's no "airbag compatibility" issue involved. If anything, the airbags would go off more easily with a more rigid bumper without the crush cans.
NO AFTERMARKET bumper is going to prevent airbags from working. That's just how it is. The sensors are on the frame, nothing to do with bumper. There's no wiring, no sensors, nothing at all to do with airbags on bumpers.
Don't worry about it. It's a non-issue.
Too many myths and guesses out there.

A deer jumped out of the ditch on a two lane highway. I was going about 90 Km/h (about 55 mph) and this is the resulting damage. I think the bumper with the bull bar kept the deer out of my front seat. Also kept the damage to other body parts to a minimum. She did get in a parting shot, left a hoof print on the fender just behind the fender flare. Reflecting on this, it could have been really bad.
