With just 10,000 miles on my 2023 Ecodiesel I have started noticing some oil seeping near the front drivers side upper timing chain cover over the last 2 thousand miles. It hasn't made a full drip to the ground yet, but I have cleaned the area twice with it reappearing. This has been my first and only issue with the jeep so far.
I know this is a semi common problem from other threads but wanted to dedicated a spot for anyone who's had the problem AND have actually fixed the issue either yourself or by the dealer.

I plan to continue monitoring it, if/when it gets worse and starts making a mess or leaving spot on the ground I will create a detailed post for tearing down the front end and fixing the leak as I won't be taking it to the dealer for this. Cheers

Mine also leaks. Mine is from the front passenger side. It almost looks like it could be coming from the dipstick tube. The dealer has put dye in it and will check it at the next change. But on a side note, I had to crawl under today to try turn the motor over by hand as the motor is locked up, and noticed it leaking again.

At the 25k oil change, my dealer not only noticed the timing leak, but also the shocks leaking. Both were fixed under warranty. While it took a bit longer than I would have preferred to get things done, they got things taken care of and got me a rental when I needed one.

I definitely have a “leaker”. Timing chain cover has leaked twice, valve cover leak, cam position sensor leak, the charge pipe leaks oil….. (passenger side top connection)…. It’s a load of fun.

I assume the dealer has been the one attempting to fix the leaks? And have any been fixed successfully or return shortly after?

Everything they have touched has returned. This summer I’ll break it down and do it. Just not motivated to do it in the winter.
Will likely have a few other components fall off too….

I’m starting to be in the same boat. I’m reluctant to take it to a dealer when I can easily do it myself. Pretty sad isn’t it.

I wonder if the machining is rough at the factory and that’s why they can’t get gaskets to seal. The dealers seem to go back with a bead of silicone Instead of just replacing the gasket.

I have one with less than 10k miles and it’s in right now for the third time for a timing chain cover leak. It’s been in about a week so far this time and is still there now.

Its parking spot really is turning into an oil slick.

I don’t believe there is a gasket there. From my understanding it comes from the factory with a bead of silicone but ether they aren’t applying it correctly or like you mentioned the machining of the metals is not perfect. 3 times in under 10k miles dang that sucks.
Mine just started to show signs of seeping at just under 10k but when or if it gets worse I’ll take it apart.
Let us know if they finally get it fixed for you.

That sucks. This is exactly what I fear. Going back for the same damn thing over and over.
It looks like it’s silicone there at the joint. I’ve done my fair share of timing covers on 5.4 fords, so I know I can easily do this one.
I’m at 67,000kms so I have a bit left on warranty to get it done. We’ll see if I actually go through with it.

Luckily i had access to another vehicle when they work on it.

i got it back after 8 days this time around, it would’ve been sooner but they had some parts break during reassembly and had to order them in.

This time after I picked it up steam/smoke started coming in the ac vents. They had only partially tightened the coolant cap and it was leaking out onto everything once the engine warmed up. It was also missing the bolt that secures a bracket to keep the dipstick tube from flopping around.

Last time it was dripping fresh oil pretty good as soon as I got it home but none so far this time.

Im hoping it will hold this time but if it has any more issues I think I’ll hire someone to give it a shot.

I was told that their system allocates an 8 hour task time for their tech to make this repair…. if that gives you any idea how long it might take you to do it yourself (if you do end up going that route)

Well, I’m coming up on my warranty. 10k to go. What should I do about the timing cover leak? Let them attempt to fix it or…..
Risk them doing more bad than good. I guess the only thing is then whatever they screw up will be covered after the warranty expires?
Dilemma……

I finally took it in with 99,930kms on it. 70kms till warranty was up. I took it in on a Friday and they said it should be done by end of day as it stated 8 hours on the estimate to complete. Yeah. No go.
They gave me a 2020 Gladiator Sport as a courtesy vehicle so I’m grateful for that.
We forgot my daughter’s drivers license in the truck so I went back on a Saturday to grab it. The tech had it all day Friday and wasn’t even half way taken apart yet. The service guy said he was having problems with all the connectors and getting them apart. Oh great.
Then he tells me that technically the technician is a level 3 trainee but is quickly becoming their ecodiesel expert! Yeah that made me feel better! 🤮
Anyway, we’ll see what comes of the repair when I get it back.

Forgot to add. The first thing you would do when working on a vehicle is disconnect the battery. When I looked at it the main was disconnected, and when I opened the door to get my daughter’s license, the interior light came on. Then I realized he didn’t disconnect the aux battery. Not that it’s a huge deal, as I’ve worked on vehicles before without disconnecting, but as a tech at a dealership, that should be the first thing you do.
