That looks great. Another option for paint is SEM Trim Black.

I use that on some of my car parts - nice for trim, stays put even on plastics.
I have a number of SEM and other types of paints for restoration purposes.
I'd bet I have that, and the textured paint he used on his bumper!

the VHT black I have is a 1 part epoxy type paint and I used it on the door locks of my SX4 to black them out to match the Jeep door handles on the car. It's a great paint and holds up to weather.
I also have a texture paint that's used as a base and then you spray a color over it..

Funny, when I saw all those cans the first thing I thought was "I wonder how many still spray?"

Many get used pretty regular, touchups on cars for show and so on, or other restoration projects - but - Yes, there's probably 4 or 5 out of all of them that won't.
The Eastwood sprays still work fine after several years. Just used the tank tone recently.

Great info. I may be doing the same to my bumper if I cannot get the paint scuff to come out.

Someone cut a little too close to my bumper and left a large scuff. I am guessing he got the worst of it, however;). Some of the scratches were deep, so I would have had to sand down to metal to actually smooth it out. I decided to go with just painting the surface--turned out very acceptable.

Looking thru various forums, I saw three main candidates for paint. I had one of the Rustoleums already, so I bought another as well as the AEV designed for this.

Short version: Rustoleum Textured (black) worked great.

Here are the paints I compared.

I taped some black plastic to cardboard and sprayed it to get some samples for comparison. While it was a bit of a challenge to photograph, here are the samples next to the bumper. In person, the choice was pretty obvious; RustOleum textured was really close. TruckBody was too coarse, and the AEV was a little too shiny. All would probably be acceptable, but the Textured was the clear winner to me and a couple others I showed the samples to.

For comparison, here are the samples:

So here are the before and after. Quite an improvement!

I went with 3 light coats.

Excellent write up, thank you! I posted a question some time ago asking what people had used to repair bumper scuffs and could not get any inexpensive answers. Powdercoating and bedliner were the two main options I received, and just let the natural patina develop gracefully. Time to sand the rust away and hit it with some Rustoleum.

Much appreciated, the and time and effort you took to share this.

I was actually surprised how it turned out. Given how it started, I figured anything would be an improvement. For some reason it reminded me of a famous local veterinarian who everyone in the area would bring a prospective horse to for a prepurchase evaluation. He never said good, or great, or perfect, but it was always "acceptable for intended use."

I'm assuming it will hold up for a while, but will report back if it does not.

Excellent presentation of information. Looks very good. Too bad someone/something got too close, but you did an excellent job on the touch up.

Thanks! Think I'll buy a can just to have for the offhand bumps and bruises.

a little off topic but Rustoleum makes a product called "hammered". it wouldn't work for your situation but for on old metal object like a flower pot, safe, pie rack or anything one wishes to give that finish to, it is excellent.
