That's what I'm planning on doing so I can power a small winch on my car trailer. It would not pull a lot. 2500 pound ATV winch from HF.
I use them on a few winches and sizes.

That makes jump starting a no opening of hood event too.

What size wire are you using, and I assume you have it fused somewhere??

Most, 99.9%, of winch power cables are not fused. The SB plugs @Blade1668 shows is/are the safety. Unplug it when not in use. And use a wire loom over the positive side, ALWAYS.

Winches typically have a thermal breaker built in. And late model winches use contactors, not solenoids for activation (FWD / RVS) control. So the contactor may blow but it won't save your vehicles electronics because the positive 'IN' will still be hot. Just your winch will quit..

If the hot or positive side shorts it will do some welding under the hood and probably fry the ECM / PCM. If using a fused hard switch in the cab with a relay, it might save you from under hood welding and a fire, maybe not. Depends on the relay interruption location and the relay.

So, you want to use a cheap Home Depot AC extension cord to save money vs a DC cable?

The output on a converter will be 12V DC and wired as such. Input will be 115v AC.

The output on an inverter will be 115v AC and wired as such. Input will be 12v DC.
Main concern is to just plug in the pumps and run some camp LEDs

Thanks, but this ain't my first rodeo LOL.
I guess you haven't seen some of my projects. I know all of that.

I'm talking running a cable to the rear of the vehicle - to run a winch on a trailer.
For normal driving, you simply disconnect the wiring up front in the engine bay (or use a switch, we are talking really low amps compared to a "jeep winch")

I've done wiring for many decades - I was wondering how he did the wiring to the rear, if he fused it.
I have a disconnect solenoid for my Jeep's winch, and my massive snow plow wiring is fused with a 200 amp fuse. They say "warranty void if fuse is not used".

Never mind - I'll follow my original plans.

Then you only need the adapter I showed - under 20 bucks. The 12v plug shown in that picture will plug right in.

Sorry, No offense. I meant to preface my last reply with; "You probably already know this, but..."

I’m trying to find a power adapter that plugs into our trailer multi pin that I can just plug a normal extension cord into. I’ve spent some time looking for this but haven’t found anything. Anyone know of such adapter?
not sure I understand your use case -- but you're going from 12v to something else, or you just want to extend where you can use the 12v? that said, I don't think you're going to be able to get a high amperage.

30 amps is how that trailer power is fused. You can pull quite a bit of power through it since it's made to charge and maintain camper batteries and so on.
I'd never try to go that high - but I'd not hesitate to pull 20 from it.

wow. I never looked but figured it would be 10 amp or less -- enough to run the trailer lights and trickle charge a battery.

Trailer lights have their own fuses and circuits and are run by relays
