FYI / Public service announcement:

There's a black funnel located under the rear seat that's made for just such situations. It will override the door locking mechanism to allow you to fill the tank with whatever nozzle is available to you once you push it into the fill door. You need just a little force, but not too much, to open it up.

I've found that when you have trouble getting it in, it helps to stick just the tip in, and wiggle it around in circular motion. It usually goes right in, after that....
btw, this also applies to the nozzle/tank.

Did you try lubricating the nozzle head first before inserting it?
No spitting on the nozzle please... and use a rubber glove, you'll have 5 attempts

Before you put your card in the pump, check the diesel nozzle and make sure it doesn't have a spout ring (I've seen these up far enough on the pump shaft where you can still get it in/low enough to the tip where getting it in is impossible). I ran into this problem when I went to fill up, inserted card/used my .50c off discount/selected diesel and the dam pump nozzle wouldn't fit...after checking the pump on the other side I noticed that diesel pump didn't have a spout ring on it. Luckily the guy behind the glass gave me my money back from the discounted price after I had to cancel my card and change pumps.

I tried at the pump it sprayed back at me . Not sure the funnel will help even the slightest back pressure and it could kick off. I wiped myself down and drove to a different pump . Thanks jeep !!
