At this point, I agree with WXman. Good drivers go decades without accidents. Proper following distance helps prevent accidents. Alertness trumps all. Some folks, who are bad or inattentive drivers to start with, will rely on technology instead of ability or effort. May be ok until it quits or malfunctions. These should be aides, but people being people many will depend on them solely while they pay even less attention to the multi-thousand lb. vehicle they're driving within feet and inches of others. Even more attention in their phones instead.

Now, if discounts are offered, I'll listen! :)

I also have no plans to order my JT with either of the safety nanny packages. I would prolly enjoy the ACC, but I don't need it. I also don't trust this stuff to work as long as I intend to own the vehicle.

Some of y'all are way too harsh, IMO. How about we be civil to one another...

As Tesla has been able to show - even though the tech isn't perfect, it is better than a human as a human "malfunctions" more often than the tech. The number is something like 1 accident per 160k miles, while for Teslas it is 1 accident for every 2.8 million miles on autopilot. So, even if people are losing skills, the tech that keeps following distances, auto brakes on expected collision, auto adjust cruise control and all that is a net positive.

Agree about inattention. The fact is that too many folks just don't care enough to drive well.

I really like the ACC, wouldn't buy another vehicle without it. The computer can react faster than I can, and makes driving in traffic easier. You need to stay alert, but don't have to worry as much about the car in front of you. With over forty years behind the wheel, I'll take all the assistance I can get.

I have it. Didn't want ACC/FCW or the other safety features, But I bought one off the lot and really had no choice. Now that I have used it, I really like the ACC but most of the other features I do not want or need.

Have seen discussions where some chose not to go with Adaptive Cruise due to amount of window space it takes up.
Some questioned the sensitivity, making it more of a pain to have.

I am trying to decide if I add it today or not.

Did you add it to your Gladiator?
Yes!

The safety features came on my LE and I really hadn’t given them much thought beforehand. Now that I have them, I love ‘em. ACC works like a champ for me. I had rather low expectations but I have been truly impressed. The calibration has been dead on for my driving environment. I would definitely buy the feature set again and think it’s worth every penny.

If only as much engineering had been put into ESS and some grease in the drive shaft, the truck would be perfect.

If it’s within the budget, I say get it.

I'd get them, both for the insurance discount (gotta weigh the savings vs the cost), and for that small instance where the FCW could help you. It's not meant to be there to cure all your errors, but it is meant to be a tool to help you drive. If you're not paying attention to the Gladiator, you're gonna end up in a ditch somewhere anyway.

The way I look at any tech is this (I'm in banking so forgive the weak example), I can do math in my head and balance my bank accounts, but I use online banking as tool to help me do so. By no means will it stop me on it's own from overdrafting my account, but it will simply help me to not do so by alerting me, along with human budgeting and responsible spending.

We need to look at some of this tech as being helpful, instead of this monster robot trying to take over our lives. This is one of those instances

I have it and love it. I use cruise control anytime I'm on the highway and always hated when I would have it set, and be cruising along and just when you come up on someone going slower there is someone in the other lane and you can't get over and have to turn the cruise control off until you can get around the slower car. With adaptive you never have to turn it off.

If you look at how human ability deteriorates with age then cars with driver assist, collision avoidance systems are amazing advancements. I can't wait for all of the old people in South Florida to buy them.

Taking away my father-in-laws keys was crushing. But he was a danger to himself and everyone around him.
