Well it looks like my 7inch Uconnect radio/display is trashed and am looking to replace with a 7 again, or upgrade to the 8.4.

I am just a FEW months out of the 3 year warrarnty (yet under 36k miles).

Looking at some youtube videos, it looks like going from a 7 to 8.4 on JT (2022) appears to be plug and play?

Only problem is: what part # do I even order?

https://store.mopar.com/v-2022-jeep...-radio-antenna-speakers-dvd-and-video-systems

68472622AM is $1069

68472596AM is $1472

BOTH say they fit my 22JT with verificaiton of my VIN #.....

Thanks.

Update us when you resolve this please. I'll be in the same boat later this year, but didn't want to keep bugging Benny for my catalog of parts down the road.

Will do. I’m actually of thinking of just replacing it with another 7in just to make it easy.

I bought a used one from fb marketplace years ago. No issues with it. I didn't pay attention to the part number, all I knew it came from a gas gladiator.

With that said, everything worked as it should. The only difference was the tire fill assist only went to 32 psi (my 7in that came with my diesel went to 37psi). I activated offroad pages via tazor

Either part will work in your vehicle (I do believe the fill assist was dropped in 2021) and the difference in part numbers are probably minor software updates, manufactures, parts ect. I think the biggest difference would be dual zone ac or single... But again I think tazor can activate it

Any reason why you wouldn’t want to spend the same or less for a stinger head unit? Mine came with the 7” and at some point that’s most likely what I’ll replace it with.

Mopar car play units are horrible about freezing/locking up with long periods of use. My 18 and 19 grand Cherokee and wrangler both did it requiring hard resets to make them function, my 22 ram with the massive screen did the same thing as does my Gladiator.

There is no way I’d spend 1k or more to replace that with more of that.

@slodsm i haven't had any issues with the 8.4 I bought second hand. Works like a champ. I didn't get a stinger because people I have talked to have said they a lot of glitches. But to each their own

I just upgraded to the Stinger Heigh10 and can confirm it doesn't like Tazer MINI and causes the live data on the PRESET2 page to show all NA for periods at a time so far....the Tazer MINI combined with the UCONNECT is awesome once you know all the features and play with it... i.e. double tap MUTE button shows camera as well as the TURNCAM feature plus does a lot of things the Stinger can't do. If I had to do it again I would have stayed with UCONNECT 8.4 screen as it stands for now but maybe some updates to firmware or something might make me happy in the future. Fingers crossed. Especially wireless Android auto/carplay would be great. Not sure if there is a good reliable module out there that I can put on and in the center console to enable this?

Also, my wife has the 8.4 in her 2018 JL SAHARA and no issues still. I did get a software upgrade and map update on a USB stick from MOPAR for 100 bucks about 6yrs into it but not because there were any problems and still rockin with no issues.

My 2021 with the original 7" doesn't even like when I try using the tire fill feature, 95% of the time it says it's working but when I go to check it, the screen greys out again. The Tazer version is the only thing that keeps my TPMS light off below 35psi. IIRC I also saw a 2025 with that feature still, but I could be wrong.

They actually cost most once you factor the adapters/modules needed to keep factory functions (some of which you still lose regardless). Biggest issue will be that you cannot access Uconnect settings for the vehicle with the Stinger units, and that they openly state "does not work with Tazer" so unless you're willing to buy/make the circuits/modules to replace the features Tazer can do and learn how to control the CANBUS, they're only good for mall crawlers with loud music and flashy "status" (Florida, Cali, Texas, ATL, come to mind).

Also I've only had a couple issues with my 7" screen, and they're ALWAYS caused by the Tazer doing it's thing over CANBUS and the SGW not being seen by the radio. A quick power cycle with the SGW connected and everything is back to normal. Next time you have an issue with your radios, try power cycling with the SGW connected/disconnected.

Interesting.

I clearly have the 7inch screen but don't use Tazer (I use JSCAN). I don't leave the OBDII reader in all of the time, but I do have the bypass cables hanging in their as its sort of a PITA to get to them everytime I need to use the reader. Wonder if that could be causing an issue?'

Regardless - it seems I can't even power cycle my Uconnect4 system. Even when I push the "screen off" button on the dash - the screen apperas to still be illuminated with distortion with white lines and a back blackground backlighitng.

Take a pic of what you're saying you see, because "distortion with white lines" doesn't sound normal.

Why do you have the bypass plugged in if you're not using the programmer? That's asking for problems in modern systems. Unless you have another device that requires a bypass to be used with it?

I have a Tazer, but don't have "bypass cables" as the Tazer when plugged in acts as a SGW "bypass". I do this for it's "Live Features" BUT when I do unplug the Tazer and DON'T plug in the SGW, my radio does NOT work at all, might boot the "Jeep" logo then shut down again.
- I'd remove that bypass cable and reconnect the SGW to see if that corrects your radio issue. If not, the probably isn't doing any benefit being plugged in for nothing.

You said "power cycle", that's just making sure the IGN is "OFF", letting the screen shut down (I'd give it 10sec of being shut down), then IGN "ACC" or "ON" and letting it boot fully before interacting with it.
- A Reset is holding the radio PWR and SOURCE buttons for 10-20sec until the radio resets. With mine, it doesn't reset the settings, so I think it's more of a reset the cache/ram.

As for the "Screen Off" button, that's "normal" as my 2021 with the 7" does that too. If you look at the bottom of the screen, there's text regarding touching the screen to use it or something like that, which can be hard to see in bright/direct light especially if the lights are dimmed down. I don't agree the backlight should be on at all when the "screen off" function is active, but I have a hunch that they used the PWR/GND for the backlight to share the same source as when the radio is "ON" to remind you it's still on. If you turn "OFF" the radio, the backlight does turn off, and if you then change a HVAC setting (fan speed for example) you'll see the backlight illuminate the whole screen (black) and the are for that setting (fan speed for example) show for a couple seconds, then they both turn back "OFF".

Let me know how this works for you.

I have a tazer, but only use it for setting changes. It’s in the glove box and the bypass cables are reconnected to the Jeep. All works flawlessly. I’d definitely try plugging them back in.
