Well I took the bypass cables off and plugged them back to where they house in the underside of the steering wheel/foot area.Take a pic of what you're saying you see, because "distortion with white lines" doesn't sound normal.
Why do you have the bypass plugged in if you're not using the programmer? That's asking for problems in modern systems. Unless you have another device that requires a bypass to be used with it?
I have a Tazer, but don't have "bypass cables" as the Tazer when plugged in acts as a SGW "bypass". I do this for it's "Live Features" BUT when I do unplug the Tazer and DON'T plug in the SGW, my radio does NOT work at all, might boot the "Jeep" logo then shut down again.
- I'd remove that bypass cable and reconnect the SGW to see if that corrects your radio issue. If not, the probably isn't doing any benefit being plugged in for nothing.
You said "power cycle", that's just making sure the IGN is "OFF", letting the screen shut down (I'd give it 10sec of being shut down), then IGN "ACC" or "ON" and letting it boot fully before interacting with it.
- A Reset is holding the radio PWR and SOURCE buttons for 10-20sec until the radio resets. With mine, it doesn't reset the settings, so I think it's more of a reset the cache/ram.
As for the "Screen Off" button, that's "normal" as my 2021 with the 7" does that too. If you look at the bottom of the screen, there's text regarding touching the screen to use it or something like that, which can be hard to see in bright/direct light especially if the lights are dimmed down. I don't agree the backlight should be on at all when the "screen off" function is active, but I have a hunch that they used the PWR/GND for the backlight to share the same source as when the radio is "ON" to remind you it's still on. If you turn "OFF" the radio, the backlight does turn off, and if you then change a HVAC setting (fan speed for example) you'll see the backlight illuminate the whole screen (black) and the are for that setting (fan speed for example) show for a couple seconds, then they both turn back "OFF".
Let me know how this works for you.
And yes - I tried holing the radio power and the tuner buttons together for 30sec but the radio doesn't reset. The screen never turns off and on again...
Here is how the the screen looks with the jeep in run position:
And here is the screen when I push "screen off"
