I don't believe it was the lock that was broke Just the handle.
Still if handle at a car show, broke, box is cheap. I want an aftermarket metal box. Too bad the 120 volt bed charger and box cargo management thing comes with the lockable interior storage box.

Wish i could skip the storage box, since i want a metal one.

The more I think about it the more I see a manufactured metal box securely bolted to the truck in my future.

The dividers are removable and can be configured in various ways.

@Troybilt - pretty sure you still get the box without ordering the package. The package just gives you locks on the box. My question is how secure are said locks and box? Would I be better replacing it with something from an aftermarket like tuffy?

Depends what you’re going to use it for. Me? I only plan to use it to transport the occasional gun to someplace I plan to use it (range, cabin, etc) and do not plan to leave any guns in there unattended. For those purposes (basically, to meet the minimum legal requirements to transport weapons in my home state), the factory locks will be more than adequate.

If you plan to transport large quantities of rare minerals and leave them in the Jeep for long periods of time, I don’t think anything would be adequate.

Agreed, the factory locks are enough to keep someone from taking an easy opportunity to walk off with your old $h!tty jump cables, tow rope, work gloves, etc. not keeping my laptop in there while parking topless downtown.

What? You must not have spent much time at car shows. These keeps have had literally thousands of ham-fisted people pawing at them, often pulling the wrong parts of the wrong way due to inexperience or malice.

Car show cars regularly have broken interior bits and bobs that work just fine in the real world, and nothing that happens to a car that’s permanently on tour to car shows should be taken as a sign that anything is wrong with it.

If Dave dumbass at a car show can accidentally tear the handle off the box, than Tyler the thief can easily smash into the box and steal whatever I have in it. It would be just my luck, the one day I leave the doors off and I'm stopping by Fleet Farm to buy ammo and Tyler steals my rifle.

I'd rather just have a metal box so I don't ever have to worry about what I leave in there.

LOL. People funny. Not sure which is better "car show survival rate for display vehicles = zero %" or "someone is going to steal one of my hunting equipments, leaving me with one, and survive" ... Lol.

My question is when is besttop going to come out with a steel lock box for under the seat. Loved mine in my JKUR but haven’t seen one for the LJ or the gladiator yet. Need a place to put my emotional support glock when I go into work or government buildings.

Never heard of them, I’ll check them out thanks. Have you contacted them and asked about it?

I have not. And I should specify it was under the driver seat. Not the rear seat.

I just looked at it. Very cool and very similar to what we had in our patrol vehicles in my former life. I would rather see them designed as so they are secured by bolts inside the box but there are ways to do that on your own anyway.

Hopefully they’ll eventually come up with something to replace the plastic box on the JT. I know I’d be a customer.
