If Dave dumbass at a car show can accidentally tear the handle off the box, than Tyler the thief can easily smash into the box and steal whatever I have in it. It would be just my luck, the one day I leave the doors off and I'm stopping by Fleet Farm to buy ammo and Tyler steals my rifle.

I'd rather just have a metal box so I don't ever have to worry about what I leave in there.
Don’t get me wrong - If I planned on leaving my guns in the JT doorless, I’d go with a metal box as well - that’s just common sense. Anything else would be criminally negligent IMHO (at the very least letting a criminal get a gun seems like it should be punishable by many slaps to the head).

I’m just saying you can’t judge the quality of an item based on how well it survives a car show. If you could, then there wouldn’t be a single Mercedes or BMW a more than 2 years old that still had it’s stock shift knob, as they’d all be falling off like they do at the shows.

For all we know, the latch was broken because some knucklhead decided he wanted it broken, or it wasn’t broken at all and the original poster was wrong.

My question is when is besttop going to come out with a steel lock box for under the seat. Loved mine in my JKUR but haven’t seen one for the LJ or the gladiator yet. Need a place to put my emotional support glock when I go into work or government buildings.
I had the Tuffy box under my JK drivers seat, and would definitely want one for my JT. Have been disappointed to see nobody making a JL one yet.

As everyone knows when you get the trail rail system you then get the locking lid covers for the box that goes under the rear seat. And I bet that lots of you were thinking that you could not get the trail rail system and then just order the locking lids from a Jeep parts department. Well I can tell you that that idea would be totally impossible. Just yesterday JTRUBI posted pictures of some Gladiators that he had seen at a show in Toronto. And one of those pictures was an under seat box that came without the lids, no trail rail system on that truck. Take a good look at that box. As you can see it does not have a complete bottom and no back to it at all. And look at the front of this “box.” As you will see there is no cut out section for the lids to lock to. And there’s also no grab handle in the middle. Now look at a Gladiator that has this box and has the locking lids. In yellow I circled where the lids lock on the front of the box. Now look at the front of this box that JTRUBI posted a picture of. As you will see there’s no such cut out on that box.

And check out the picture of Mark Allen putting the box back into a Gladiator. As you can see it’s a normal box with 4 sides to it as well as a top and a bottom to it. And this thing that JTRUBI posted a picture of is not a box in any sense of the word. They are 100% totally different. And there is no way in the world that you would ever be able to put these locking lids on to this so called box. So if you really want this locking under the seat box then you just need to get the trail rail system.

Sooo what makes you think you wouldn't be able to remove the partition (box alternative) and replace it with a box later? If your point is that you can't add a lid to thing that is not a box, then okay I agree. You shouldn't be able to...its not a box.

I doubt that Jeep would sell the entire real box with locking lids through a parts department.

I wouldn't be too worried. I bet some enterprising company will come out with a completely awesome locking box for under the seat that is probably cheaper than the factory option and better.

Tbh they probably will since it’s an optional part. I know I’m even the JL to get the AUX switches you need the trailer package, but you can still buy the switch kit from Mopar.

I’m pretty sure Jeep will sell the box as well. But I’m sure it might workout cheaper in the package when you order it. .

There will lots of folks who order trail system and don't want box and will sell. In addition to the other aftermarket boxes that are offered.

And I may be one of the people looking on EBay to find one of those boxes for sale. I will get a Sport model as I want manual windows, mirrors and locks. A guy from Jeep sent me an email telling me that the trail rail system would be available on all trim levels. And I pointed it out to him that this is not what the build site shows. So he checked and emailed me back to reconfirm that it would be available on all trim levels. We shall see once dealers are able to order them.

Yea, TUFFY will . . . and it will be better, stronger (metal) and the locks will be an integral part of the frame, not an add-on option (I hope) . But My goal will most likely be to Remove the Rear Seat (won't be buying the optional storage bin) and have ALL that Space for . . . what ever I decide !
