Never saw this thread before the necro.. But its quite informative. I have been fishing wires across after pulling the 10mm's & lifting. And I have to get back in there due to a failed seat heater switch that I am going to have to pull & replace.

Same here, I never saw this thread before and i leaves me with one question.

Do we now know why Jeep made the OE FOB so large? :CWL:

It’s not big enough!! LOL

drop down the side abs it will fall into the chasm. Not crazy hard to disassemble, actually pretty easy, but still a pain.

count me part of this club now. Key fell down and into the slot.

Got it out by loosening the two front console bolts and removing the two rear console bolts. I was then able to lift the rear cup holders up and pivot the thing high enough to reach under and grab it. I didn’t reach from the sides but straight up the center. Heard some clicks which worried me but everything still works so ??ā€ā™‚.

Fuck this little slot.

Just had this happen to me today. What a stupid f’ing spot for a hole. Stumbled upon this thread. I have no desire to tear open my console or remove the front seat. At least not right now. My question is, will there be any issues leaving the key fob stuck in purgatory while using the second key? I can still lock the Jeep. I know that if someone were to gain access they could simply drive off but I don’t plan on having the doors off until summer. Are there any other reasons to want to get the fob out of the black hole sooner?

UPDATE

I spent the better part of today lamenting over the fact that my key fob was stuck in purgatory. I finally just decided to lift the center console to retrieve it. It was much easier to do than spending hours online researching, joining a random forum, annoying my wife, and resurrecting a dead thread. So, I apologize. I removed the back 2 bolts and loosened the front 2 and in less than 10 minutes I had my key back. I also had 2 receipts for gas purchases, 3 pennies, and an extractable razor blade that definitely wasn’t mine (I bought Jeep used).
