If someone happens to find a key fob in a river, how would they possibly be able to find your truck?

Geez, what has happened to common sense anymore?!?!
Now obviously it depends on the frequency you visit said spot.

But if I lost my keyfob at the beach in the cove I keep my boats at and someone found my key. They would have a pretty good chance of being able to find my truck as I leave my truck there several days a week for a few hours. Sometimes I leave it parked there for a couple days straight. if I found a key in said area I bet I could guess the car and what boat they own based off the key itself just based on the other cars and people I always see there.

Thats why you always put your keys in a zip lock bag filled full of air so they don't sink...for future reference obciously ?

I’m about to go off on a strange tangent but it has to do with a dropped set of keys. Years ago, drove to a remote location to start a long bike ride. Before setting out, tucked my keys in the shoulder strap of my bib shorts and entered the port-a-john to urinate. Lowered the bibs and my keys fell into the funk. I probably stood there a good 3 or 4minutes, working out a solution to this dilemma. I live solo and could not easily call someone to get me a spare. Did what I had to do and went fishing, about mid upper arm in depth and retrieved them in short order. I admit that I smelled a bit funky during the ride and flies alit on me at stops.
Good on you. I would never ever, for any reason ever, no matter what, tell that story, ever.

OEM fobs:

Be careful of these. There's more than just one fob available for each year. You need to work with your vin to get the correct fob, not just the year. And if you notice the key is a blank. I dont' know of anywhere you can get another other than the dealer.

I don’t go on the water without my phone or keys in a small dry bag. Cheap insurance. Amazon sells lots of different sizes.

Blacked out and wrecked my bike into a marsh when I lost mine, lost some cool prescription ray bans too. wish I had a cool story like kayaking. 160$ for the new fob 90$ to program it. charlotte SC area Jeep dealer. Didn’t get the laser cutting due to time issues. 1200 euro for a new fob in Deutschland does not surprise me!

Talk about crappy luck, sounds like you got yourself in to a really shitty situation but made the best of the turd sandwhich life served you.

The question that immediately crossed my mind though was what was worse, your arm or the rotting whale someone drove too close to.

This isn't good news for me as I had the same thing happen while kayaking last week. I didn't know that the fobs were that expensive.
Have you seen the price of a Mickey D's quarter pounder.... hint it hasn't been on the dollar menu for almost a decade..... damn I'm aging myself.

ziplock with air is a bad idea, moisture builds up in the bag as condensation on hot days

When I go kayaking I use a waterproof fanny pack. They are cheap on Amazon. I keep my key fob and wallet in it (so I have my ID and fishing license). There are several colors available or clear for $11 - $12 for a two pack or a little more for one you can put your phone in along with all the other things.
