So I was kayaking and dropped my gladiator key fob into the river in a little shoal area. Its like 2 and a half feet deep, but with the current and the rocks, you cant see anything. After looking for a bit I gave up. I am tempted to go back to that area in a day or two with my waterproof metal detector. What are the chances it would still work?

If its lost, what happens if someone ever finds it? Should I be worried then that someone has the physical key and fob to my truck?
Im tore up that I lost it, but luckily I had my family come with my spare I had at my house.

If someone happens to find a key fob in a river, how would they possibly be able to find your truck?

Geez, what is happened to common sense anymore?!?!
probably the same as whatever happened to using proper english?

If you find it, don’t press any buttons. If the fob can be taken apart, do that and dry it out thoroughly before seeing if it works. I wouldn’t worry at all if someone else finds it …except if they try to put it on their finger ?

A dealer can order you a replacement. It only takes a couple weeks and about $300.

Unlikely it will work. I accidentally left my key in my pocket while going in for a swim last week. It was in (salt) water for no more than 10 seconds, before I realized it.

Washed it off immediately under low pressure water from the sink and tested it. No dice. Opened it up and it was bone dry. Tried replacing the battery, but that didn’t work either.

No one answered your question to if someone else finds it:

With the newer keyless entry models, the dealer can/will likely reprogram the fobs and disable the previous fobs. Your issue could be the physical key, but if you're paranoid about that, the dealer should also be able to change your locks.

Further, take your current key fob with you as they will be able to reprogram that key to the jeep along with an additional fob.

Be nice, he should obviously tell us where exactly where he dropped the keys and where he lives, so we can see if they still work.

Chances of someone locating your jeep after finding it is slim to none. I doubt anyone would even try

It's 300 here. I got a quote already. Need to get it before I go to the river I guess.

You might can try sweeping the area with a magnet. You might find other keys and things too

New FOB with key laser cut cost me $235. Plus programming cost. So total cost $300 - $400 depending on kindness of your dealer.

I’m about to go off on a strange tangent but it has to do with a dropped set of keys. Years ago, drove to a remote location to start a long bike ride. Before setting out, tucked my keys in the shoulder strap of my bib shorts and entered the port-a-john to urinate. Lowered the bibs and my keys fell into the funk. I probably stood there a good 3 or 4minutes, working out a solution to this dilemma. I live solo and could not easily call someone to get me a spare. Did what I had to do and went fishing, about mid upper arm in depth and retrieved them in short order. I admit that I smelled a bit funky during the ride and flies alit on me at stops.

This isn't good news for me as I had the same thing happen while kayaking last week. I didn't know that the fobs were that expensive.
