Hoping that I can draw on experience from those of you that have already opened things up snaked wire through the "extra" spot that Jeep left in the "boot" where the wire harness comes through the passenger side firewall, from underneath the battery to underneath the glove compartment.

How big/how much wire can fit through that "extra" spot in the firewall boot?

I am aiming for a pair of 8 AWG in a pair in a jacket (for amateur radio HF mobile) and a single 6 AWG for audio amp upgrades.

Also, for those that have "been there" in pulling apart the trim and running wires, how much room to work with, to run some extra wiring, is there underneath the foot/kick area down the lower edge of the passenger side? I am hoping to run the 6AWG down that area to the back seat, and then run some 9 conductor cable back from the rear seat area to under the dash.

Only the 6 AWG power wire needs to hopefully run down that foot/ kick area, the 8 AWG x 2 conductor is not going to need to run there.

Thanks in advance!

I ran my cb cable through there… definitely a little tight but there was some extra room… personally I never ever run power cable next to a signal cable ie cb gmrs cables, rca audio cables etc etc… the power can “bleed” over and cause issues. When I ran my power cables for my arb twin under my passenger seat. I ran the power through the frame(so easy to do) and came up through a plug underneath on the floor.
Good luck sir

Thanks. Audio signal wires from the head unit to the audio amps are all going to run down the driver's side foot area in shielded twisted pair cable. Only the power and amp outputs, back to drive speakers, are going to run down the passenger's side. For exactly the reasons you mention.

Realizing that I can [maybe] [If I need to] just bring the single 6 AWG hrough the firewall and then branch off to the 8 AWG inside the firewall, since I am never going to be running the audio system at the same time at which I am transmitting HF mobile. Though I would rather have direct runs of both, separate, to battery, to keep RF where it belongs...

You can get a 6awg through the nipple on the main harness boot by cutting the tip off and feeding from the inside. 4awg technically fits but it puts a lot of stress on it. A little soapy water and the cable slid in no issue. Just ziptied it to secure and it's pretty much waterproof as anything on the truck.

If you have an auto there's also the clutch master hole on the driver side... little black cover can be drilled out for a 3/4" loom pretty easily and that's how I get my radio cables (and Switch Pros control) into the cab.

It was a miserable experience, but I was able to get a wire through that grommet. Be careful to not puncture the existing wires when going through. I had to jam my arm up the wheel well to grab the cable I was running.

Thank you - sounds like I'll bring the 6AWG through the nipple and then put a Morris splice block on the 6AWG on the inside of the firewall to branch off to my 8AWG

Any "voices of experience" on the amount of room for added wiring under the trim by the door kick areas on the passenger side?

No experience through the firewall. I’m not sure if things in the diesel are that much tighter, but I can’t seem to fit a hand down into firewall area where the loom passes in through the firewall.

I ran my CB this weekend along the driver side frame rail and up through the drain plug. I pulled the carpet back and ran it up under the dash to the radio.

Tons of space. I added a 4-gang fuse block behind the glovebox and that's where all the extra wire is bundled.

I'm about to do this to run a 4 gu and 10 gu wire to power two amps. I have the 6spd, so I believe this is my only option. FML. Why can't we have wireless power transmission already?!?!?

but it's a BIG hole so you should be able to share it, just might need a different grommet.
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!

Thanks for the intel.

I disconnected and pulled the battery while doing this because of a nightmare thread roaming around about cutting wires while doing this.. being over cautious was my plan of attach! take a coat hanger and tape your wires on to it.. use the hanger point and be mindfull of any additional pressure. once through you should not feel it touch anything else. I believe I stayed to the bottom left of the factory loom. taking the battery out helped.. next Im going to do the aux switch install
