After a bit of research, filters are out there, factory and aftermarket. It's the ms-12991 spec. oil, or at least finding a jug that is labeled so, is what's elusive. Likely have to go on the API service SN rating.

They don't look the same but that might be from the camera angle

They both dimensionally match, bottomed smoothly with no obvious resistance. Even removed the new one to check for any crush or non-conformity. Now, that said, it resembles the previous gen cartridge, however there's been at least one post where the change was attempted with an undesirable outcome.

I found several sources for the oil filter on Ebay for less than $20...

I cant speak of the quality, but the MOPAR is made in China also. I know there can be a big difference between like products made in China, but I haven't heard of any bad reports about the unbranded oil filters... has anybody else ? would you trust them ?

I'm inclined to go with the OE unit until other tier one vendors come on-line, such as Baldwin/Hastings, Mahle, Wix, etc.

When you shop for auto parts, you have to ask yourself who is going to cover this if a defect or damage arises? Some no name white label box part and Ebay seller is not going to cover damages.

Why hasn't aftermarket, like FRAM, done these yet? Hard to find air filters too.

Just got off the phone with my service guy. 0 on the filter coming in next week. But they have 40 qts of oil. Which isn't that much in reality. My next change should be somewhere in late May early June.
