As the subject indicates, anyone can make a mistake. Sometimes we have to force ourselves to limit distractions, what ever that may be…

This will be a very expensive lesson learned. No pun intended…this driver is caught red handed on video. Hopefully, neither driver and or passengers were hurt especially the non negligent ones.

As a former LEO with many years of experience, there are several collision factors here.

Violation #1 (Failure to stop for a red signal). There was an obvious red signal visible on the dash cam video and considering the traffic signal was most probably red for traffic traveling the direction the Jeep was going, and that the vehicle that was struck was well into the intersection, there is every indication that the Jeep ran a red signal.

Violation #2 (Unsafe Speed For Prevailing Conditions). The Jeep was obviously traveling at a speed that was unsafe for entering or going through any intersection no matter the signal.

Violation #3 (inattentiveness) The driver of the Jeep was not paying attention to prevailing conditions or the traffic signals.

Just the other day three people were killed in my community by acts involving at least two of these violations and in Los Angeles, there were six dead just two days later. Alcohol played a part in both of these tragedies; however, these contributing factors were present. We see it every day, the fool who drives ubnsafely, who speeds, who fails to follow signals and who is inattentive or texting, or... intoxicated. Somehow we have lost the basics of defensive driving and common sense and courtesy.

Be safe and expect the other driver to be unsafe.

I see people running red lights all the time... some intentional , some not... too many distracted and or pissed off entitled drivers out there . Everytime I get the itch for a motorsickle, I simply take my front doors and soft top off.

That’s why I pause and look both ways when the light turns green. It’s saved me from two accidents. The average driver is a brain-dead moron with a cell phone glued to their hand.
