Have the dealer you just bought it from give you trade in value.

There is your calculated loss
Thanks, I actually thought of this one I replied to you yesterday. My insurance company told me to wait till the repairs are completed, before asking for values. This way they can be more complete. It's looking like it's going to be a while before any of this is resolved through the insurance companies.

The insurance company wants you to wait, because it is worth more fixed, but worth less than it was before the knucklehead whacked you.

HA so I asked the body shop to replace my "steel" bumper, they told me it wasn't available and they couldn't get any of the steel bumper parts. I really wanted to have it back ....
Steel bumpers are widely available

1st post for me here on this forum. I hate to show this to everyone but she went a total of 340 miles before someone ran a red light and hit me. Good news is that both parties were fine. The lady who hit me all her air bags deployed and mine looks to be some possible major damage to the bumper, frame and sway bar no telling what else. Everyone stay safe out there and get a dash cam cause apparently it's good to lie about stuff...

From my understanding they wont let me keep any of the parts. I will ask again just to see.
They did this run-around with me when my Miata got backed in to. I asked for the hood and they came back with the good ol' "Insurance might ask for it back" line. Through shrewd negotiation, I was able to convince them for me to keep the old damaged hood, which is now hanging on the wall in the garage collecting all of the stickers of the crap I buy.

I basically told them that it's not getting sold and that if they want it back, I'll bring it back. You gotta charm them sometimes, and it usually works out.

So here is an update to the accident. From what my insurance is saying the police report says the accident occurred because the other party ran the red light. So that is some good news, now I hope her insurance actually pays and I can get some reimbursement on my deductible and possible loss of value.

Friday I went to the body shop to go over repairs and estimated time to repair. The total was around $6000 minus my deductible of $500. I have attached what is initially going to be replaced and how much everything is. Hopefully this will help anyone in the future if this happens to them. I should have the truck back by the end of October which is pretty quick turn around.

The body shop guy that walked me through the estimate, told me that normally they would have cut the part of the frame where the bumper attaches to the weld where it's welded to the main frame, but that part was "unobtainable" and Mopar says it has no plans to release the date when they will have it ready to purchase. So they are going to bent that part back, which I was told wouldn't be very difficult. The only other issue I saw was that the whole hood was basically out of alignment, so all the front panel gaps were way off. I just hope that there aren't any issues with it once they go try and fix those gaps.

My insurer is with USAA and so far they have been great to work with. I took it to a Jeep dealer body shop which is a preferred body shop by USAA. So I will have a lifetime warranty on any issues that might creep up in the future.

I went a bit over board today and bought my dash cam. I have no idea how I will mount it yet, but I went ahead and dropped a good amount of money on a Blackvue DR900S-2CH and the battery pack so that I can enable parking mode the Blackvue B-124X. While waaaaay more expensive than I really wanted to spend, I know what I am getting is one of the best dash cams on the market. Now just have to figure out a good way of installing it. I hope I will never have to use it.

Doesn't work that way -wish it did. I had a RED Ford F250 4x4 - big truck, did I say RED?
Anyway, was in the left lane of I 35 southbound and a lady in a white sedan decided to pull into the left lane. I was RIGHT BESIDE HER. She pulled into the side of my truck - it rippled up the entire left side of her car bumper to bumper and just put a minor ding in my right fender.
Another time I was driving along I 235 in Des Moines and someone coming down the ramp to get onto the freeway didn't see my BIG RED F250 with a FLATBED TRAILER and a TRACTOR on it - yeah, they thought that the laws of physics were a bunch of BS. It was rush time and there was no way in heck for ME to move over - they had to do a quick maneuver to the shoulder to avoid me. I guess they don't understand MERGE or that BIG RED F250s hauling flatbeds can't turn or stop on a dime?
Anyway, before all was said and done, but big red truck had been hit THREE times, none of them my fault.
Paint your Jeep with fluorescent pink and orange and have neon flashing signs on it - won't matter. Make it dummy proof and they'll just invent another dummy LOL

Be safe - and no wonder they always said - defensive driving is the rule. It's not so much me I worry about - I know my faults (and the list ain't short) - it's the other guy.
My high school buddy had an old Mach 1 mustang that he and his dad rebuilt and had it painted canary yellow with black hood stripe. Mind you - this ass end of this thing is “stand out and wave at you” , close to safety yellow. He got sandwiched between two cars at a stop light because the girl behind him “didn’t see him”. Got it back from the body shop on a Tuesday night after school. Drove it to school Wednesday and on the way home, some idiot drove into the passenger door as they pulled out of a parking lot as he was passing by. Again “didn’t see him”. Still drivable so appointment made to take back to shop Saturday. Friday on the way to school, stopped at a four way stop and got knocked through the intersection by someone that didn’t see him!!! He began to agree with the rest of us that the car was cursed !

Wanted to throw an update out there.

Got the Jeep back today from the body shop. All is well I guess. An additional ~$750 was added to the repair for other stuff that they found out it needed after the initial inspection. I'll see if I can scan it and post it up for all that want to know.

No word back yet on if the other persons insurance will end up paying the bill. I guess I'll find out one day.

I'll dig this up since it popped up on my recommend read.... A year has passed now any news on at fault driver's insurance payout and final resolution. Good or bad in general.

Thanks for reminding me about this. Both insurance companies went to arbitration and it was decided that each would pay their own. So I am screwed out of my deductible and have a wreck on my insurance now. Not much I can do about it at this point but move on.

If you don't have a dash-cam front and back, I highly suggest getting one. The days of people taking responsibility for themselves and other human beings is over. You have to have definitive proof, especially if there are no witnesses who will step up to do the right thing. Invest in the best Dash cam you can afford, as soon as you install it you will not ever need it but I feel a lot better having it.
