All depends on your trailer.

B minus A equals C, the drop.

Cool! Thanks a bunch for your very quick answer. Heading out the door with my tape measure. :))

I have a Alumistinger 4” drop, have had it for years, used it on my Tundra for many years before the JT, still looks new, all my current trailers are single axle so the drop isn’t that critical.

Like all of the others have said - the mount should allow the trailer to sit totally level once it's hitched up. So you can't measure the truck as it sits - as it will drop some with the trailer finally hooked up.
I hooked my trailer up, measured how much it dropped the truck. Then I unhooked and set my trailer jack until my trailer was totally level and measured the coupler on the trailer to the ground. I then did the math.... hopefully I did the math correctly as I load everything up and leave at 5:30 am friday.

You especially want twin axle trailers level when hooked up so the weight is distributed evenly on both axles, if the front is too high, the rear axle handles more of the load and the front axle less (and the tongue weight increases). If the front is too low - then you put too much weight on the trailer's front axle.

I only have a 10 foot utility trailer and will try a 2" drop a friend has and go from there. I really do not expect to tow anything even close to the max weight Jeep says our truck can tow. But one never knows.... Thanks for all the help and great advice. :like::beer:

In this case its kind of irrelevant. Its a small trailer that probably isn't rated for more than 3000 lbs.

My dad has a drawbar with proper drop for his race car trailer. He borrowed my 8 ft utility trailer to bring a motorcycle somewhere. The ball is way too high. But it doesn't matter. With the bike in it, it weighs 1000 lbs and its fine.

Tongue weight is far far more important than ball height. (too little and the trailer will become unstable). Provided it doesn't load the tow vehicle too much, its always best to load the tongue more than is necessary.

Back to the 1000 lb utility trailer situation. My dad's truck is rated to tow 6000 lbs with a 600 lb tongue weight. If rather than 10% tongue weight on this 1000 lb trailer, we end up with 25% on the tongue, the trailer will tow excellently and still be way under max tongue weight. (This is typically the case with motorcycles since we run them right up to the front of the box. )

But it never hurts to get it right if you are buying a draw bar specifically for this truck/trailer combination.
