What camper are you towing with your eco-diesel?

Family and I started thinking about getting a travel trailer or camper that fits the bill within the limitations (both factory and by my own mods) of the eco-diesel. I'm curious what you are all towing without derating, obviously this implies changing driving habits up grades, in extreme heat, etc., of course, with or without mods. I'm currently on 37's on a mopar lift with a stubby bumper.

I'm thinking something at 4,500lbs max loaded up and likely an a-frame or pop-up camper to keep the pressures from the wind down as well. However, I'm not opposed to something like a Geo Pro G16BH which has a bigger frontal area, but is where within where I feel comfortable towing in terms of weight.

The more I run the math, only a full size truck makes sense for the bigger ones so figured I'd ask if any of you have found a holy grail.

I have an RPOD 179 with a 3" block lift.
I have taken it more places than it should go... Which is why I have had to replace the axle already...

That looks great, so how’s it drive behind the Jeep? Looks like it’s about a GVWR of 3,500lbs so you can sleep 3 or 4?

I have towed a 16bh and only had to keep it around 60 going up long inclines through the smokies other than that sometimes forget it was behind me. I tow a NoBo 19.3 which is heavier and taller but tows ver slightly better with dual axles. BTW 16bh is available.

It has 1 queen bed plus a kitchen table that folds down into a full size bed. It weighs 2800 lb dry. Fully loaded on a scale it is about 3450.

The diesel tows it great!

I do need to be careful with extended grades on hot days... Long story short I have to slow down a bit to avoid high temps...

Other than that it's awesome... I go for 5-6 days at a time with the solar panels, and will actually work remote... I work in cyber security, so I can work from anywhere.

You will find me way back on trails that you question how did I get there, and I'll have my solar panels and starlink running while I work and enjoy not being at home stuck in a basement...

Very nice, towing my boat I need to watch in the summer as well. Plenty of power, but I see temps at 260ish degrees and know I’m flirting with the derate. I’ll drop it to 60mph and see the temps drop to a stable and safe one. Once the outside temps drop, I don’t even notice that I’m towing.

I’m looking forward to getting into a trailer in the next few weeks.

Opus OP4 - Air inflated tent trailer - 3000+lbs loaded - 2 doubles(1 can convert to a king), can add some bed space in the middle for kids - outdoor kitchen -cooler compartment fits a Dometic CFX95

Definitely have to watch temps pulling big hills in the mountains.
Working on lifting the trailer a bit too so it pairs up better with the truck and for offroad clearance.

I don’t have one because I can’t bring myself to spend 30k+ on an off-road trailer. However, I’d love a vorscheer xct or an off grid expedition 2.0. They are both small and light and have everything I need to be very comfortable. If you need more sleeping space and a roof top tent.

I have a great camping setup but the convenience of attaching the trailer and leaving would be great. Also, not having a RTT on my rack and camp gear when I’m wheeling hard trails would be a huge plus.

I've had my challenges with it. Some build issues, but the company (OPUS) was really good in helping me out especially since I am in Canada where there were previously no dealers to go back to (imported it from the US).

I redid a lot of the electrical. In the process of lifting it as well since it's long and off-road you really have to be careful stock if your traversing rocks and drops. The biggest problem with it is kinda fundamental, it's a tent trailer and I live in the pacific northwest where there is a lot of rain. If you want to do rain camping pack up is a challenge. As you air the tent down then have to fold the lids in and well you do that you are gathering rain water if it's raining when you pack up. I have an idea for a secondary full length tarp for the limited times we do heavy rain camping so I could capture the rain and pull the tarp off just before closing it. but still have to work that out.

It is really spacious inside when you open it, the outdoor kitchen is excellent and the Air sun awning is really nice. And it packs down into a low profile for travel at least heigh wise but it's still a pretty wide trailer.

Yes it is basically a tear drop. But they are all composite and are much better off road. It has a kitchen area, fridge, hot water, water tank, shower, ac and heat, queen sized bed, plus storage. For my purposes, something this size is much better as it’s easier to tow and I can take it more places.

I don’t care to camp in crowded campgrounds with hookups. If I wanted the luxuries of a bigger rv with a full living area and galley I’d just rent an airbnb or hotel. It’s hardly camping at that point. But again, to each their own.
