I've made the decision that when we build our next place, the shop will have a stall with a lift, good floor drain and plumbed for hot water so I can hand wash vehicles all year AND get underneath.
Down here you can wash anytime. Even dead of winter. It's great.

The problem is - well everything else about this place.

I can't cut down that tree for several reasons... 1) it's the only tree on my entire property, 2) Our HOA requires a tree in the front yard. And they are serious about it.

One of my neighbors had his tree crack in half during one of our hurricanes. He had it removed. Within 6 months he said he got a letter from the HOA saying he was in violation and the tree had to be replaced AND gave him stipulations; certain species, minimum 6 feet tall at planting, etc.. They went so far as to give him a completion date or he'd start getting fines.

That's unfortunate. I cut down the only tree on my property a few years ago. Neighbors have plenty though. We are uh, hardly an HOA area though.

Mobile home across the street, my house was built in '04, the ones around me built in the 70s and 80s, most are on slabs, some are on crawl spaces, some have trees, some don't, one is actually an assisted living home with employees, one has a broke down Mercedes in the yard, two are actually rentals.

But no fines for doing what you want, so there's that I guess 😬

And today, I put the fridge in to test it! It’s an Amazon brand one but works surprisingly well thus far! Cooled down from 63* F to 0* and 35* (L and R) within 45 mins on ECO mode 😮

I'd like to move to someplace thats kind of the best of both worlds. I don't mind snow, but I hate the cold, and MN gets stupid frigid cold (but the cold keeps the deadly crawly things away). I also don't mind heat, but I hate humidity, and MN gets stupid humidity. My ideal place would be Colorado, but the cost of living and policies there don't jive well with me. We've been thinking of Wyoming, but it's so damn windy and the areas that we like are all expensive.

I spent a lot of time in Missouri a few years back. Wouldn't mind it there, other than its prime tornado territory. It's in a pretty central location for traveling, though (at least for places I like to go, which is both east coast and out towards UT, etc).

I've been to Louisiana many times many, many times. The weather is about the same as where I live, so that's a wash. The people and the culture (if you stay out of tourist traps like N.O.) is incredible. One time, many years ago, me and my best friend were driving around (we went to N.O. for St. Paddy's Day) and we ended up in some small town. We parked and started walking. We asked a shopkeeper where was a good place to grab a beer. A total stranger told us he was having a boil in his front yard, we were welcome to come, free food and beer. He gave us his address and left. Of course, me and my buddy, being native Long Islanders started quoting ignorant lines from the movie Deliverance; "you sure got pretty lips, boy." "squeal like a pig", etc.. Anyways, we drove past, his yard was full. We decided whadehell, parked and walked up.

We had the BEST time. My wife checked in and asked where I was. I said I didn't know, but I'm having a great time. Understandably she was concerned. We learned several things; do not call crawfish "crawdads". No matter how spicy something is, do not react, tough it out and sip your beer or risk being teased. To this day, my friend and I have no idea what small town we were actually in.

Louisiana is awesome.

I'm a bit jaded after being here 36 years, and I've traveled the US just enough to have a taste of other things.

It's not bad though. Food is good. History is deep. We won't be leaving soon for reasons. We have an acre on high ground surrounded by horse farms. That's about as good as it will get anywhere.

I agree. Steer clear of most of NOLA and you'll find some real gems. I like about an hour north of there.

Uh Utah. Well Southern Utah. Snow in the mountains. 65 degrees during the day. See the snow. Play in snow. Golf all the same day. Not to mention the off road.

Zion Park! All I can say is wow!!! And if the rest of Utah is just a smidgeon of Zion then I have to agree with you. Heaven on Earth. We will be back there in May 2026. I’d move there in a heartbeat if I could. One day……
