I’ll stay out of the oil type debate, but it’s a really easy job. Drain out the old through the drain plug hole, put that plug back in, then put the new oil in the fill hole. Tighten the fill plug, then you’re done.
LOL - yeah, what religion is best, what spark plug is best, what color is best, what's the best state to live in (personally, I prefer the state of confusion but that's just me)
Anyway, love your tech how-to here. Well said.

Will this be the gear oil I use if I have the willys?
You need it, or something similar, or the slip additive, if you have the Limited Slip rear end. Otherwise, any 75W-85 or 75W-90 gear oil should be sufficient. It is recommended to use 75W-140 in the rear differential when doing a lot of towing.

Yes, with the limited slip and no towing, that will work. You can also use it in the front. It contains a friction modifier that is needed in the LSD rear. It's not necessary for the front, but no need to buy and keep track of two different gear oils.

LE Monolec 75W-140 gear oil (9923) is interesting but its not going to be at your local autoparts store. Sadly there are big differences in oils even the same spec. I know where to go to get engine oil tests but not gear lubes.

At the power plant. We used Polaris Labs.
