Here, you could get a nice 2,000 sq ft
What happened here years ago is there was an upsurge of people moving from places like Boston and so on, selling modest homes and moving to Iowa. Many went to the area west of Des Moines, resulting in a large number of large "expensive" homes being built because they could buy twice the house here.

Looks like similar going other directions - sell here, buy there and end up with a much larger house. Please don't tell my wife!

We've had an influx of new people from the natural gas drilling industry. You can tell who the head honchos are by their houses. New 4,000 to 6,000 sq ft monsters with lots of land.

I agree. I feel like early to mid 80s should not be considered millennials personally.
I have a brother (83) and a sister (82) who are the truest definition of millennial, my sister more so in her beliefs and ideals.

I was born in 75, and my other brother 77. He and I compared to the OTHER two are lightyears apart in how we view the world.

But... we were raised differently. My bro and I by our father. My siblings by the mother, and their grandmother.

I can add to that, but first -

I'm Gen X, the youngest of 3.

I believe that if you're at the end of a generation and have younger siblings, you'll take more of the next generation's characteristics. Vice versa, if you're the youngest born in the next generation, you'll likely take on more characteristics of the previous generation.

Obviously this isn't a hard and fast rule; other factors can influence it, like being raised different parents or other family.

My b-i-l has an older brother, both GenX, but his sister is Millennial. And she's more GenX.

People always wonder why Millennials get a bad rap, but I think it's more we see a wide, disparate ends of the bell curve. They were the start of the "social equity" movement. Their sports scores weren't recorded. They got trophies for participating. They were the ones that were driven to school. And as they entered the workforce as the Internet became a thing, news spread much quicker and easier. At the same time, the Internet was bringing riches to kids who could create and sell something useful.

Millennials observed that and began to think, "all these people around my age are running companies and making millions, that should apply to me!" Never mind the "all these people" is in reality a small, small minority of people.

I remember growing up seeing commercials for luxury cars like BMW, and the actors in the commercials were middle-aged people. So the expectation was you work, move up the ladder, and then you can afford a nicer car.

The focus on commercialism and materialism flipped all that with post-GenX generations. Instant gratification was now possible with the Internet. Social Media didn't help, either. The methods and experience of how "we" learned was rapidly increased as information - good and bad - were now at a young person's fingertips. As was interaction, which was disengaged from the traditional communication circle, removing reactions, processing, and inflections, but putting more weight to offense, anonymity, and immediacy.

The younger generations have it made. I had to walk 5 miles to school in knee deep snow up hill both ways in old no name tennis shoes, and a Sears coat.

You strike me as a kid that got cheap flannel shirts and tube socks at Christmas time.

Grew up in a low income blue collar house, but I learned a lot from that and was able to apply it as needed. Straight from high school to the US Army.....was going for 1 enlistment and had so much fun with it, I stayed for 20 years.

Now almost 6 years later living the dream. Did well with some investments, real estate all while collecting my retirement check from the Army, 100% from the VA (combat fucks you body up, LOL) and now working for a big tech firm remotely while on call to do site visits as needed.

I was just hungry from a young age and refuse to let people out work me. Every dime I make I figure out a way to have it make me more money. My current plan is to retire for good at 55, fingers crossed if the world doesn't to hell first.

Just remember, "The effective range of an excuse is zero fuckin meters"

Cheers Gents!

Cost of a Gladiator only tells me it is going to skew to Gen X and Boomers.
Gen Z here. I feel very fortunate to have been able to purchase my dream truck.
