Hey gang,

so my gladiator decided to ? on me. Took it to the dealership and they said it was the alternator/battery and spark plugs. So I brought it home (it’s no longer in warranty at 57k miles). Jumped it out I drove it to my sisters when it ran rough then died. Bought a used alternator and installed, bought a new main battery that I installed (auxiliary battery I recharged and auto one said it was good). So now I have an alternator, new main battery (both showing 12.63V) and reinstalled the aux battery. I clicked the engine start button twice to put it in the “run” position and everything worked fine. However, the volume control for radio, ac, heated seats etc. did not work. Ipushed the break in and pushed in the start button only for it to do nothing. Then the dash lights (speedometer and rpm gauge would click on the off as if the security was clicking). I disconnected the alternator, main battery and the dash kept going. It’s finally off with the speedometer gauges being in random positions. Did I trip my security or is the aux battery shot? Kinda freaking out because this is not in warranty anymore. I’ll try to post a video.

fyi-main battery and alternator pull 12.63.
Uploaded a video. Hope it works.

Sounds like your aux battery is shot. Do the bypass from this forum and give it a shot with just the regular battery.

Buy a new Aux Battery. Disconnect both batteries. Make sure the Positive connections don't make contact with anything during the process. Fully charge both batteries. Reconnect them and try again. If you have the 8.4 Uconnect head unit, it will take up to 24 hours for it to return to normal operation.

The Aux battery would prevent the gladiator from starting?

The average life expectancy of the AGM batteries in the JT is about three years. At your mileage, if the Main needs replaced, then the Aux is not in any better condition. A bad Aux battery should not prevent it from starting, but can be a large parasitic drain on the main battery. The two batteries are paralleled together all the time, except during the startup test and when ESS has the engine stopped.

thanks for the reply, man. I’ll buy a new auxiliary battery and install. But the fact it does what my posted video shows, freaks me out.

That could be from low voltage. The purpose of the Aux battery is to keep the computers running. When there are electrical issues, it causes odd behaviors. Sometimes, it just needs a proper system reboot (disconnect both batteries for about ten minutes).

You’re the man. I’ll do this tomorrow (gonna buy a new aux battery first. I’ll update if that helps the issue. I’ll also boot check the aux battery after pulling it out.

TIP - never let parts stores check batteries. They can't do a good job. It's just a cursory check at best. They often miss things. And - you can't possible check battery that's not charged.
Your voltage is low.
You should see 12.7 at least on a fully charged battery and you must see over 13.0 with the engine running.

You said -
fyi-main battery and alternator pull 12.63.
With it running? Hope not. That means the alternator isn't working at all, not a bit.
If the main battery is connected when you check voltage, then it will likely read 12.6 but if it's not connected then that 12.6 means it's not fully charged.

Best thing is to charge the aux battery by itself, then let it sit a bit and check the voltage. It should also charge up to at least 12.7-12.8 and hold at least 12.7 when sitting disconnected.

Hey gang,

so my gladiator decided to ?

I had similar problem after replacing main battery and found one of the high amp fuses (the ones on the right side of the fuse box) blown even though I never sparked any terminals

Depending on its state ... yes. I deleted and bypassed mine about a year ago. Basically rewire like you are installing a Genesis Dual Battery .... Run the AUX positive up to the main positive and isolate or remove the Aux ground. The Aux positive is just long enough, but it will reach. if I recall you'll need to flip over the cable end. I also took the extra step to shrink wrap and insulate the end. Everything has worked great for the past year.

Well after buying a new main and a new aux battery, the gladiator finally starts. Yay almost. I plugged in my JScan and these codes show up. Also, I got battery and other warnings on my dash. ???‍♂ it also had the start/stop warning come up.

and my volume, heated seats, power button for stereo, etc., is not working now. Time to start fuse searching?
