Officially they're called "Bracket, Tire Deflector", left and right. Pretty safe to say their purpose is to deflect the front tires during a collision to keep them from intruding into the cab, very much like the previous passenger side only bracket that appeared shortly after the rollover event during overlap crash testing.

It's a thing you unbolt and throw in the dumpster if you don't want it.

It's also there to try and keep the front tires and axle from going places it shouldn't, when your Jeep or another vehicle goes somewhere it shouldn't, in an attempt to not kill you.
