What length bump stops are you using with the Clayton 2 1/2” Overland Plus lift?

I’m ordering the Clayton 2 1/2” Overland Plus lift with Falcon SP2 3.3 shocks for my JT Rubicon Diesel. I currently have 35” tires. The kit comes with 3” bump stops front and rear which seems to tall for a 2.5” lift. For those with this lift on your JT, what length bump stop are you using and how much travel is left on the shock when your suspension is fully compressed? I want to use the shortest bump stop I can and still have at least a 1/2” travel left on the shock when the suspension is fully compressed. Tire clearance shouldn’t be an issue with 35’s and +25 backspacing. Thanks!

With 37's, I generally run just a Metal Cloak Durospring and 0-.625" bump spacers depending on wheel offset. On 38's I run a 1.0" up front. I also optimize the arm lengths to center the tire in the fenders too, so that is worth some clearance.

I would think with 35's on a diesel you wouldn't need any spacers?

Tire clearance will not be an issue. I just want to make sure I don’t bottom out the shock at when the suspension is fully compressed. I’m wanting a bump stop length that would give me between 1/2” and 1” of shack travel remaining at that point.

I'd wait until you get the lift and shocks installed and then take some measurements.

The front is probably fine with stock bumpstops. On the rear, you should be able to tinker with them without taking it apart since the bumpstop is not inside the coil.

Wheelin98TJ,
On the front in particular, I was hoping to order something close to what I need since they can’t be changed easily. I’ m not going to order the 3” stops that come with Clayton’s kit since they are way too long. I was hoping someone that has this lift could provide me a good idea of the correct length.

I understand. Much easier to do it all at once.

I have Clayton 2.5" coils on mine, but mine is a gasser, so my measurements would be no help. Hopefully a diesel owner comes along and gives some input.

Find the fully compressed length of the Falcon shocks you are ordering, get one side of your stock front fully compressed, measure what that puts the stock shock length at, compare to full compressed length of the Falcons and order stops to match.

Teraflex should be able to answer this question. When you call if you get a flaky answer escalate it, they know the exact answer to what spacer the shock needs. If the 1st person you talk to doesn’t want to share ask for someone competent. Tires/fenders are not a factor for the shock requirements.

I have the lift installed now. I had hoped to get the correct bump stop with the kit but that didn’t happen. The Clayton 2.5” Overland Plus came with 3” stops front and rear which didn’t seem right to me. When I got the lift and took measurements it was obvious the 3” bump stops were too long. A 1 1/4” stop in the front and 1 1/2” in the rear left me with about 3/4” of shock travel when the suspension is fully compressed.

Too late now, the lift is installed. I tried to get an answer ahead of time but evidently wasn’t talking to the right person. The 3” stops that came with the Clayton 2.5” Overland Plus were too long. A 1 1/4” in the front and 1 1/2” in the rear is what worked.

it’s really cheap and easy to modify the front if you tap it when the coil is out then use hockey pucks as bumpstops. They can be changed with the spring in place.

Hockey pucks work great. We used RTV if the spring is installed.
