Ok. So i picked the AEV wheels because they are a “no poke” wheel. They come in at 8.5” wide, 5.73” backspacing from a +25mm offset.

They set up perfectly for my wants. Now the rub: turns out i need a minimum of 4.75” to run a drag link flip.

Way i see it is my options are to not flip the drag link; sell these wheels and get ones i like less with the backspacing I need and deal with an inch of poke; or do wheel spacers on the wheels i have and deal with an inch of poke.

Is there a “right” way to do wheel spacers? Hub centric + bolt in im guessing? What would that look like? Cut the stock lugs back then install the spacers?

Thanks

Do you need the drag link flip? What problem will it solve?
IMO there is no right way to do wheel spacers.

A raised track bar and a drag link flip makes the truck roll less and steer better. There isn't a problem currently, I just want it as optimized as possible. The closer to horizontal and in parallel the drag link and track bar are with each other, the better the truck drives. its less prone to body roll, and less prone to any amount of bump deflection when hitting a bump with a single wheel.

Hub centric for sure. Don't get just the slide on ones, they can crack, and I've saw them crack before. Get ones that bolt on then you bolt the tire to them, a little thread lock on them and you want have any issues. I'm running 1.75" Rugged Ridge ones on my JT and I ran 1.5" Rough country ones on my JKU for 6yrs, also ran them on my XJ, never a issue. I bought mine from CJ Pony last April.

Good gouge. Running spacers isn't my preference, and i dont like poke. So Im trying to decide if the drag link flip will be worth it or not. I guess at 1", to make them as small as possible, id have to have the lug nuts cut back then thread lock the hubcentric in, andbolt the wheel to that on new lugs?

You don't cut anything. The spacer bolts on just like a wheel, then wheel to the spacer. Use blue loctite, set the torque spec to 130, and leave it. Do not check the torque as you are breaking the loctite if you do. Don't use red as you will need heat to remove and risk warping the rotors.

Then torque your wheel to the spacer as if it were the stock hub.

Thanks. So, with a 1" spacer the wheel will be far enough away the lugs wont interfere at the back? I guess i can measure, and/or just check the hub mating surface if i go that route.

Red loctite doesnt require heat to remove. Green and black do.

Yeah like this, I haven't saw any 1" spacers available for the JT as of yet. Just 1.5" and 1.75", only the slide on ones under that length. I don't recommend running the slide on type, definitely have saw those crack before.

Personally, and this is just me, but I wouldn't use spacers unless it's temporary until you replace your rims with something with more back spacing.

I would not run spacers on wheels you are going to permanently have, I would just swap the rims for something that doesn't need a spacer.

sigh. Yeah. I dont really like the idea of spacers, and I dont really like the idea of taking a bath on selling these wheels and tires, either.

I'm going to drive the truck for a few weeks and go from there. I'm not unhappy at all with how it drives now, I just had a specific goal in mind of what I wanted the end state to be, and my irrational perfectionist side is coming out.

I’m pretty certain you can’t run any spacer below 1.75” with out trimming your studs to fit properly.
If You must run spacers look into spideryrax

if you want to keep your same style wheel, you could probably sale your setup now and purchase the JK AEV borah wheels with less backspacing.
I believe, if I remember correctly they are at your minimum requirement.

You are having steering issues correct? Can't remember if it was you or someone else.

nah that was someone else in a thread we both replied to. My truck drives great, steering is fine, again, I'm just looking to be exceedingly specific as to what the build is. This is me being anal, more than likely completely unnecessarily.
