I've been reading through this thread because I'll be doing my first winch install this weekend and I'm looking at using this solenoid connected to a factory aux switch.
I'm expecting the small positive pole goes to the aux switch, negative to the fender ground, Large poles go one to the battery positive and winch positive and winch ground goes to the fender ground.
Other hardware needed will be a mounting bracket, a short lead from the solenoid to the battery, and some rubber terminal boots.
All correct, but fwiw, you might spend less getting the one from Warn. As it includes all the cables, and a switch if you didn’t want to use aux switches.

I considered the warn kit but spent about half as much assembling my own kit and do want to use my factory aux switches.

Perfect. I hadn’t checked, but didn’t think $80 was unreasonable. If you did it for less, good work.

Edit: I also like that in a hypothetical warranty situation, Warn can’t point fingers at how I’m powering my winch.

No they sure can’t.
I saw the warn kit at $99 and didn’t want the leftover switch cuz I’m using an onboard aux switch.
I also will have leftover wires, connectors, and boots for other projects or to better shore up the ones I’ve already done.
when I add on enough lights I’m going to add a third party aux switch panel to leave some of my factory ones open

Wow. That went up in price. I think I spent 79. My aux switches are full, so that’ll happen to me eventually as well.

There may have been a better price somewhere but that’s what I saw on the warn site.
I’ll have one switch left after the winch install. Once I add some small spots on my front bumper and some rear bumper lights I’ll add a switch panel and move my ditch lights to that panel and move the winch solenoid to one of the 15 amp factory switches.
May ditch lights have a separate DRL circuit and I can split that once I have more switches.

I hear that. My aux switches are full with solenoid 3, amber backlights in the KC lights, the bumper KC’s, and my side lights. I’ve already outgrown things as I had to move my rear bumper lights to a remote key fob. What switch panel are you considering? I’m not a fan of anything on top of the dash. These already have small windshields. I like the idea of the a pillar one I’ve seen. I’m drawing a blank on who makes it.

That was part of my reasoning for going with the Warn solenoid - it's sold by a company that sells winches (even though mine is not a Warn winch) and then it came with a cable as well. I already had a collection of various cables from years in automotive and the winch I have came with a short cable because it came with a manual switch. But it gave me choices of cables which then later came in handy as I ran one of those short cables from my snow plow fuse down to the hot side of the winch solenoid so I still have only one cable on the + battery terminal.
And when i bought it - the price was lower.
I put the included switch in a tub of switches I have collected from over the years. I have no idea what I'm going to do with all of the toggle, rocker, rotary and other switches I have collected but it would make Red Green proud - I'm going to need that some day....

If my solenoid ever goes south, I'll look at one of those posted in this thread but I like how compact the solenoid I have is, and how easy it was to make a bracket (by cutting off a section of aluminum angle stock I already had and drilling holes in it).
Lots of ways to do this, but the basics are the same.
Nice thing about a solenoid is they are low draw devices on the coil side, once that solenoid is pulled in, it takes little to keep it there, so almost any reasonable quality switch can handle it.

My thoughts exactly when I bought mine. And my switch is in a pile as well.

I’m using some Auxbeam 5ā€ lights for ditch lights. They have a good selection of switch panels. I’m thinking I’ll use one of their 6 switch panels when I get to that point.
On the Warn solenoid, I do like that they are good quality and made specifically for winches.

I’ve got a mild case of the flu, so this is definitely small brain Thursday. But I finally remembered. I’ve considered the voswitch jl400. I’ve currently to got 5 accessories (KC lights use two switches, winch solenoid, D & C Lucid vsl side lights, and rear bumper lights on remote) I’m sick of the remote for the most part. I emailed voswitch to see if the labels are changeable on the buttons.

I like that one for the grab handle location. Definitely out of the way.

They have an 8 button version as well, but I do t like the aesthetics as much, and I can’t imagine needing 12 total switches.

Me neither. I have the 4 factory switches so if I add 6 more that would be plenty.

Do you have actual physical dimensions of that, including the studs, etc.?
if i change mine in the future, or if I blow mine out from abuse, that one is an option, as long as I could make it fit roughly where my current Warn solenoid is.
So far the Warn solenoid hasn't even gotten very warm with use.
Always looking for information, options and so on
Sorry it took me so long to get this for you. The Solenoid is 4" long from end of stud to end of solenoid and 2 5/8" square, The studs are approx. 3/8" diameter or 10mm diameter and roughly 1 1/2" apart.
