I am having a similar issue. On my second transmission in my 2020 Overland (replaced at 31k miles due to extremely hard shifting). I never noticed the whine, that I have described as sounding like a Tesla, in the first transmission, but acknowledge that a full transmission replacement made me hypersensitive to noises. One service reconfirm added that it sounded bad, but after holding on to my Jeep for a month, they are claiming it is normal. Mine manifests in first and second only, and when I put it in manual shift, I can go from a significant sound in seconds to no sound in third (same speed, different rpm). And when I go to the same rpm I third it isn’t there (removes, in my opinion) anything but the transmission as the source of the noise. I am weighing my next steps and will be following everyone’s updates and will provide my own here to keep y’all informed. Currently very ā€˜not amused.’

You may be describing the same noise (like a turbo spooling up) in first and second gear, very faint but annoying I had in my second 8 speed transmission (which was replaced). 3rd transmission was doing it the same day I picked it up.

The service manager said (with the second transmission) the tech located the whine noise to be coming from the bell housing and noted it on the service order. He said possible planetary gear issues and it got replaced.

After receiving the 3rd transmission, I had to go on a trip right away to BC (about 1000 km round trip) and I noticed the same whine noise in 1st and 2nd gear under medium to heavy acceleration. Wasn’t there under light acceleration.

I informed the service manager again and he advised I just keep driving it and we don’t ā€œopen the can of wormsā€ as ā€œengineer department said the whine is normalā€.

I said to him if that’s the case how was the 3rd transmission approved for replacement?? He said engineers approved the replacement but said if they find nothing wrong with it when they tear it down, the dealership will be charged back the cost.

Doesn’t that put the dealership in a vulnerable situation?! There will be no proof of tear down and the techs at the dealership can’t do it so they are are at the mercy of FCA.

Since informing the service manager of the whine in the 3rd transmission, the noise has migrated to include 4th gear. I’m at about 5k km on the 3rd tranny.
mine dies the same thing and they can't hear anything. Sounds like a power steering whine. some days its louder that others. but it follows the gears.
