Okay, this one definitely is new on me .
I didn't know these had a clutch 🤯
That's why I love this site . Always something new
It literally decouples the alternator from the engine when you need a boost in power, and I believe even when the batteries are 100% charged and/or hot.
These can literally shut off the charging system and take the alternator out of the equation - saves power, prevents spinning a heavy alternator rotor when it's not needed.

Please refer to post #26 in that thread. It outlines the exact part order.
Things like that are what make forums like this worth the effort.

To all who are curious about the Alternator Decoupler install. Took me less than 2 hours. One piece of advice: When trying to relieve the belt tensioner, there is a cylindrical part below the alternator which blocks the tensioner -it is 2 bolts. remove the bolt on the left and just loosen the right hand one and let the piece rotate down and away. then get a 3/4 socket extension and a breaker bar for leverage, insert the extension into the tensioner, and when facing the motor ( i stood on the bumper) apply force and wait for the hydraulic tensioner to release. before this stage i already had the alternator loose, i removed it completely to get at the decoupler pulley. Don't forget they are reverse threads on the pulley. Overall not a difficult swap, and considering a local shop quoted me $1300 to replace the alternator I'm pleased with this sub $80 fix so far.

Absolutely.

I understand the way shops have to work these days (or even years ago, to make any money), but it's frustrating to me when I know 1 part can resolve an issue vs. swapping a whole assembly.
It's a waste of good parts - and that bugs me to no end as well.

And - now you know a lot more about your Jeep.

Absolutely! When they told me the whole alternator had to be replaced - i said "OK thanks" knowing that there was no way that could be reality. Maybe the Mopar bulletin says so, but this fix was way simpler. at 54K miles there's no way i should need to start throwing parts at small stuff that comes up
