I’m watching this as well. I’d love to be able to do it on my own.

I have an old (very old) bubble balancer. I wouldn't think twice about using it for a trailer tire. I have used it a few times on a couple of auto tires, but I end up stopping at discount tire to have it rebalanced. I asked a few times to just check it. It was always off a little each time, so I stopped asking. Now I just let the tire shop handle mounting and balancing. Discount tire has always been gracious when comes to balancing wheels.

Discount tire rotated and balanced my father-in-law's wheels after a unmount/remount of a leaky tire. They didn't charge him for the service. He eventually went back to them for wheels (salt damage)and tires.

A old school bubble balancer is better than nothing, but one really needs to have a proper digital spin balancer machine and even better, a road force balancer machine. The latter two are pretty cost prohibitive for most home shop and garage owners.

I have a bubble balancer but like others mentioned, I would not use it beyond maybe some trailer tires or small compact car tire sizes.

For what it’s worth, some tire manufacturers tell you not to use road force balancing. Mickey Thomson is included in that list.

currently shopping for a lift, balancer, mounter, and alignment rack. A buddy and I are planning on opening a 4x4 shop in Southern MD.

That sounds like so much fun. I’d love to open one.

we got fed up with the lead time and overpricing. we do our own work and decided lets get our Quals and the tools and make this easier for everyone else too. Shops around here like to upsell, overcharge, say you need stuff that u dont, and hold your vehicle for 8 months. we wanna get rid of that shit.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s the same here. The last time I almost had someone do something because I was almost lazy, they reminded me why I don’t. So I did it myself again and swore off of shops for good I think now. They made a comment that I’d no longer have a place to fill my co2 without them. I now fill my own in the garage with no problems whatsoever. And it’s 25% of the cost.
